We are still just using the wood burner, keeping it ticking-over on dull days. When the sun shows, we're still fine on solar gain. :)

Down in the polytunnel we've now replaced the polythene side panels and restricted any ventilation to the doors. That's not bad, as we're past Bonfire Night....

The peppers are still growing well enough, but they're taking up space I need for (hopeful!) salad crops, so I'll make a final harvest soon and put the potted chillies into the conservatory.

Had to buy our first cucumber in ages yesterday.:(

As for the esoteric stuff, I suppose it's time we harvested one of the yacons, if only to see what they're like. It would be very ironic if we've given so much space to a 10' monstrous thing we both hate! :rotfl:

I don't think it grows as tall outdoors. Will report back on this when we dig - possibly next week now.

I might have a few tuberous growing tips I can send people. (I'm doing comfrey & one or two other things in New Year) ....or maybe a lot of them if we dislike it! :rotfl:

Dull and damp here today, ideal for staying indoors bundled under blankets ;)
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • pulled a bit of ivy up but not feeling my best today so spent most of my time watching hubbie take out a huge root of a very old smoke bush. One more root to take out and then I can put my quince hedge in.

It's rather nice and occasionally sunny here, though it won't last.

I've been up at the east end of the barn, filling in the 1' wide gap under the eaves that its builders failed to fill. It's rare that any driving rain comes up and under there, but driven snow is a different beast, as we've discovered! :(

When I'm finished, that part of the barn will be less Spartan, without 30 square feet of high level gaps through which the wind can howl.

That will just leave the ruddy great 12'x12' hole in the front!:rotfl:

Hi all thanks for asking how things are..........not great. Mum went ot a care home viewed by both my sisters who both thought it was nice, lasted an hour before having a major meltdown. Spent the night wandering up and down corridors knocking on doors. Soiled herself and wouldn't let anybody clean her up. Care home decided they didn't want to keep her. After a great deal of persuasion they let her have another chance. Once again mum blew it after an hour and they have sadi she is not staying. Stepdad can't cope anymore. Not sure where that leaves us. Doctor has confirmed she isn't doollaly. midlle sister is making everybodys lives difficult with unreasonable demands and rubbing people up the wrong way. Oldest sister is at her wits ends. Just waiting for a call from the social worker.

Congratulations on the new job sorry can't remember who it was. Hope the heating/pond/ feeling unwell people get sorted soon.

Lucielle - hope the social worker is helpful, it's so stressful a time & doesn't get easier until she's settled in somewhere that suits.

Dave should a shed not have air movement/ventilation? Or was it ridiculous?

Good day at the soil association thing but really nasty weather - went in the snow! Stood up a windy hill in Sutherland looking at soil samples.
Thankfully most of the day was in a hall & the food was brilliant & had been grown within a mile - even the meat.

I left my bag & we had to double back there, but everyone was so helpful & we came home to messages & emails to say how they would get my bag back to me.

Rhiwfield - Are they castrators or ring applicators? They'd sell.

Cold ole night & so wet. Everything I pull out of the cupboard stinks of mould.
  • lucielle - I know how hard it it havin an elderly parent to care for, so you have my heartfelt best wishes x We watched over my dad for the last 7 yrs:) and till he passed away in feb.
I was born in a small one bedroom mobile home...grew up in a two bedroom..parents got a 3 bed when I was a teenager and grandmother moved in with us, bought my own in my twenties, kinda used to them! And this land is too soggy to build on! The original bungalow from the 30's that my grandad built is at an interesting angle! After watching my parents care for their parents, it was obvious I'd do the same when they got old, and my daughter has told me thats what she plans to do for me.
The mud is getting bad here...my spinner doesn't want to spin anymore..I may have potatoes left in the ground:(
So I had a baking day instead! And I need more jars as my grape is still hanging with fruit! And I love grape juice:D
Bloomin chilly sat at PC! Woodburner is in the other bit and I am NOT putting the elecric heater on...no frost no heater!
Oh well...thanks all for the great welcome x

    Oh no I havent!!

Yesterday, bought a magnificent 54" wide pointe de rose bruges tapestry in great condition, Retour de chasse renaissance, Point de l'Halluin, (same as this) because it looked good :o.

The same cant be said for the sheep castrator

And the disco ball and light fittings that I'd bought were being half inched by another buyer until he was stopped by the lady supervisors. Oh, he said, thought they were all part of my lot!

    Welcome Lovefullshelves!

    is the tapestry old ??
