    Too busy here packing :p

Not really stopped since we got back from hols mid september. DW is off to see grandsons Tuesday before trekking north nx Sunday to sort out MIL's house clearance so I'll be holding the fort.

Warm yesterday, warm enough to sit out and have a coffee. Finished the first box of storage apples, Scrumptious, and moved on to the Cox. James Grieve didnt make it to storage, first to be used. From memory that leaves cobra, red pippin, saturn and winston which should last until Spring. Two disappointments, the trees adjacent to the v large honeysuckle which i think have bitter pit so wont be using them.

Solar matched the Oct qtr record here, it would have smashed it but the last month, while most of you had sunshine, south wales was mostly overcast. Even with pv keeping usage lowand energy efficient appliances, running a home business means we are affected by energy price rises. Not sure why there was such a hoohah when a govt minister mentioned wearing a sweater at home!

Here this morning Rummer and Alfie :D:D:D

Yesterday evening I must admit I catapaulted myself back to the 1980's and watched back to back episodes of Blakes 7 on my laptop trying to convince myself that I am still a teenager :eek::eek: Didn't work but a nice bit of escapism,

I have two dog beds down in the bedroom. One is a memory foam bed and earlier in the week Mr BD also put down a plastic bed with a soft duvet in (which Ellie used to love). Ellie spurns them both and continues to sleep on my bed. Charlie, our soft as lights lurcher, stands and cries because there are two lovely beds and he can't decide which one to sleep in.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

When he does get both brain cells pointing in the same direction and finally make a decision he snuggles down with little mumbles of contentment. :)

Mr BD is off into town this morning to collect some perennial geraniums from a kind freecycling soul. They are oxonianum, phaeum and Johnson's Blue varieties - will have to google to see what they are like. This is in hopeful anticipation that we will move to the new house sometime this decade.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
    James Douglas
  • We've had our first apple here - it was scrummy. About another dozen to come, I think, but they're not ready yet. I can't remember what the variety is, the label has long gone, but never mind.

I made a lovely big pan of bacon potato and leek soup last night. Got a reduced cob loaf from the co-op last night and the two together were just great. DH had another bowl of soup before he went to bed! I guess the rest of it will do for lunch today.

Nothing decided on the "what's next for Alex and DH" front...

Major hugs to Lucielle for her family woes and LIR for the Opengate affair *hugs tight*

Cuppas and biskwits to all *hugs*

  • Morning all :j

We must have had loads of rain again last night, by the way peeps have been talking on FB, but I was out like a light, and didn't hear a thing.. but it does look a bit rough out there this morning though.

Had the fire lite again last night.. as hubby was cold..

Part of the piglets run I like a swomp.. typical its right by the gate to their run, so its going to be a right rig-ma-role when we try an get separate some of them to go on the trailer ( when the time comes.. we refer to them as the 'boglins' as they are well and truly look like some sort of mud monsters:rotfl:

Mr Pig, has just gone super hairy... Poor Thing was shaved when we had him, no wonder he was scratching all the time...

ITSME do you know what the weather forcast is for the next 2 - 3 weeks??

Aflie good luck with the WB hope the LL and the repair man get it with both barrels for their shoddy work..

Right Off to make another cuppa, as the last one didn't touch the sides:D

We were out last night at a social gathering in a friend's house, where talk turned to Pantos, which is a definite sign of approaching winter. I also blew all my careful eating for the week. :o There were a few claps of thunder, but it wasn't cold; in fact we had to open the window.

Bucketing down and still pretty dark when I let the hens out at 07.45 today, but it's better now with some blue sky. :)

Our apples here have been gathered by quite a few people, as we couldn't possibly manage them all. A couple in the village who usually put plums out to raise money for the Air Ambulance did well this year. In contrast, we had under a kilo of damsons and about 4 plums. :(

Planted the garlic yesterday evening. Normally plant 40-50 cloves and the results will last us about a year. Might have slightly over-ordered from the garlic farm this year - their garlic lovers pack plus a couple of other bulbs resulted in 153 cloves!
It meant I had to dig up half our crop if cricket balls, sorry, beetroot.
On the bright side, my wife made a Nigel Slater chocolate & beetroot cake which was yum.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?
  • Rain, rain and more rain here in Glasgow :(

The geranium I picked for £1 at B&Q plant hospital has perked up ! Tradescantia zebrina is also growing like topsy.

Just had a quick look for down at Abertawe & the coming week is still in the teens temperature wise.
Carp with rain for first part of week, a little better midweek & better still (sun?!) at the end.
The following week is changeable (a bit of everything) but goes down into single figures around midweek. It does warm slightly again, though.
The third week is currently due to be colder (8-10) but brighter with showers.

Alfie - How did you know we were changing lightbulbs? :rotfl:

Ah you are all morning people :D

Alex Sounds as if you and OH have a bit of time to think about where to go/what to do next, life really is an adventure for you both at the moment.

CTC When I had horses I spent many days knee deep in mud and in the spring one of our fields used to be scattered with wellies that had been abandoned :rotfl:

Dave and Rhiw Our plums were amazing this year and we couldn't eat them or give them away fast enough. They were delicious too. Certainly going to use a paint brush again this year. Apples however were again a bit of a washout. The tree is only 4 and a mini one at that but we only had a couple from it.

Better Days Blake 7 what a blast from the past!

I have spoken Such a gorgeous display of indoor plants :D we are overrun with spider plants and very little else, think we will need to keep our eyes open for bargain new house plants.

WTFH I often get carried away when I order things :o Clearly in my mind I own a country estate :rotfl:

Itsme You are always a font of weather knowledge :D

Well I had a lovely long lie and since I got up I have baked a cake and tidied. Today we are going to a local museum and then the dump :rotfl: the rest of the day will be spent taking photos of things to sell and listing them.

I was busy last night, nothing over exciting.

Been out today. Lots of small holdings and small farms on the Market all of a sudden, boards out. Especially in one of my very favourite villages in the world. Resigning ourselves
To the the fact the road is busy and there is no station handy for DH so would never have been practical, but ...oh.:(. DH also said none of the houses were as nice as ours, which is also true, and they'd all have been more to buy, but probably cheaper to live in, and really stunning landscape!

Hey ho, we are where we are and you can only buy what's open the market at the time!

Seen lots of quail today too. Makes me happy. I love them.
