Do not waste money on registered post; he can always refuse to sign for it.
Two copies sent from different post offices, with free certficates of posting. Consider sufficient for the serving of notice of court action.
One might go AWOL but not two letters. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
The stream garden is in a dell in the bottom field, not far from the main garden. It's overshadowed to the south by trees owned by another smallholding couple, so the southern bank is theirs. However, they take no interest in this area, beyond walking their dog in that field, so they wont have noticed that I removed all the tree branches that were touching the ground on my side. This opened up the stream banks and gave us a fair bit of firewood, which we're using!
I suppose the dell there is about 30-40metres long, up to where the stream comes over a waterfall. From there, the stream is on the other folks side and the situation's reversed, with us owning all the hedge/trees. Unfortunately, I get to do the maintenance there as well!
Anyway, with the stream opened up over the past couple of years, I thought its banks would make a nice wild & damp garden, as we have none of that environment elsewhere. I started planting waterside species, like primulas, astilbes, mallows, lythrums, arums and flag iris in the spring + a few other shade lovers, like hellebores. I also popped in some foxgloves on the upper banks.
We then had an incredibly dry summer, knocking out the smaller hellebores, which never really got a proper foothold in the parched soil. The shade has also proved too much for the iris, mallows and other things which aren't doing anything, except shrinking and disappearing!
So, I'm just introducing more shade- tolerant plants. The arum lilies like it there, so I will use them instead of iris. We don't really need much in the stream itself anyway. There's already plenty of hart's tongue, shuttlecock fern and ivy growing naturally, and I expect the campion and foxgloves to increase with the improved light levels.
I wanted to go slowly in the first year to see what worked/didn't work and I've probably had the worst case scenario. So, onwards and upwards....
Interesting Dave.
Our new garden is going to have a fair bit of dry shade (if we ever exchange) so it is interesting to hear of your experience. Shame the mallows didn't make it - they are pretty.
Alfie - I look forward to hearing the next instalment of the Mr BUHA saga. Even without a fly on the wall camera it must give you a great deal of satisfaction to be proved right after so much disruption.
LIR - cystitis :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:not a laughing matter I knowIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

We're trying to decide what to do about the old boiler. The company were given opportunity to collect but didn't and we will offer once more (mainly because DH is thinking of doing a particularly pointed legal thing, for which he needs to offer it to them once more ) but it they decline not sure what to do......just junk it for the metal value? I mean, its all its good for to us but it would be nice to think an engineer could make it work for a smaller place.
. I just hate the waste......I wish they'd take it if they have such belief in it and put it in a garage or something.

It does seem a waste that someone, somewhere, can't make use of it. Maybe an ad somewhere?
Did I tell you that the firm doing the installation of the various renewables (including wood pellet) on the moor was listed as insolvent earlier this month?
People were getting grants from the National Park to install things & now they won't have a company to sort out any possible issues.0 -

Yeah, that's an idea, thanks!
Technically of course, its still his, (because we refused to pay final bill) and so we have to resolve that.0
