The single dahlias don't suffer with earwigs, and come in gorgeous colours. It's the ones that look a bit like mop headed chrysanthemums that get very earwiggy. Or the ones that have petals that look a bit tubular.;)
Yes, and the single, less fussy kinds are also much more insect- friendly when it comes to the buzzing and fluttering varieties we should all help. :)

Earwigs are much maligned. They get a bad press, but we have lots here and I have no huge problems with them. The chickens like them too!

That's a very true bit of inspirational writing you've posted there Alfie, but I'm scared of arriving where I want to end up, 'cos then I'd have to ask, "What next?"

Finally snapped a piccie of the barn with the improvements we've made to the frontage:

We might make some doors eventually, but even with the 10' opening, it's still much more weatherproof. :)

PS. There are dahlias in the previous Flickr photo of the garden. ;)

Dave I seemed to have it in my head that you were a secondary teacher. I do stand by what I said though, I am impressed at your wide knowledge :)

CTC My mind obviously has some sort of filter as I didn't notice it either :rotfl::rotfl:

Alfie A great quote! I certainly do enjoy the journey as the planning and organising is something I love. However what I need to focus on is enjoying the destination, I am afraid as soon as I achieve something my mind switches to the next thing

We are hopeful that the bathroom will be finished tomorrow (oh yes it is still being done) there were lots of tricky bits and unforeseen issues, mercifully we agreed a price beforehand. So hopefully tomorrow I will be able to give it a final scrub down and add the finishing touches, although we will have to wait until our next payday to get the last couple of bits.

We're pleased with it, but don't forget that we paid a local carpenter to do the gable end.

We just did the back and the front as we don't own a scaffold tower. Even if we did, it would be too high for me. I can just clean out those gutters, and that's as high as I go!
