CTC - I had an ear thing that lasted a couple of months - bit like labryinthitus[sp?] and that was a dizzy thing - because we are on a slope. I could hadly walk anywhere without feeling I was pished! But the blue lip thing sounds scary. But it can be very unsettling indeed. Get the blood test done.

Had a great time in bath land aka Travel lodge. Went to Asda and bought loads of stuff for 10p a pack ie roast beef, minced steak,24 sausages in a pack, cream cakes etc. I had to store it in the...............bath as it was the only relatively cold place. But it kept it fine & all safely home now. Gee if you live in a place where they have an ASDA go there about 8pm - I got bags of stuff!

Went to my fav art gallery - if I had pots of money I'd buy loads of stuff out of there. I also got some brill buys in the charity shops - the Winter wardrobe don't ya know? Went round the arcade & was shocked at how much new stuff costs - so long since I bought owt new - apart from food!

Feel all renewed & raring to go....to bed.

Choille delighted to hear you had a lovely and successful trip :D

Dave I clearly need to read up more about kitchens ;)

Alfie They do but I think they will be out of our price range and I had been hoping to support a local business, although it is looking less likely that will happen :(

I was so tired last night that I went to bed at 7pm and I awoke at 7am :rotfl: Rumlet is certainly a drain on my energy, but such a lovely one!

There are so many things I want to do today and I am hoping that it brightens up as some of them are based in the garden, although most of them are in the house, which is in a [STRIKE]mess[/STRIKE] transitional phase ;)

First though I am going to bake so that I have delicious things to keep me going while I work ;)

It is freezing cold  I think I may have to relent and put the heating on. I really don't want to but I refuse to be so cold.

It does seem to feel Autumnal.

Glad you found your phone Alfie.

Kitchens are so ridiculously expensive the fitted route - that's if they'll tell you the price of individual units. It's such a scam.

We got some brand new boxed units for the utility area off gum tree a while back. Someone had bought them a couple of years back for their MIL & not got round to doing it - know the feeling on that one, but she'd moved & they were surplus, so we got a pile of them for £100 & I actually like them! So that's great.
The actual kitchen we'll go the painted pine cupboard & odd bits of furniture & open shelves as we certainly couldn't afford to do much else, but I don't really like fitted kitchens - they all seem a lot the same to me.
A friend who ran out of money on a house re build bough a whole kitchen off Gumtree for 100 squid - cooker, fridge/freezer, washing machine, sink - the lot. It was a knotty pine one which he's painted & refitted & it looks ace.

Get that heating on Rummer - it's blawing cauld.

    Oh, I must stir myself...................

Back home after 7 hour drive.

Enjoyable break and buying trip :).

After a week of AGA cooked breakfasts and dinners the jury is still out on the Aga. On the plus side is the instant heat and quality of cooked items. On the negative side is that it is on constantly and thows off a lot of heat even when not in use, it must cost a lot to run! And theres a lot of faffing about moving pans between hobs/ovens, get the timinmg wrong and things dry up quickly. My feeling is that 4 controllable hobs and an oven, switched on when needed, are more sensible though perhaps less stylish

Watched the salmon fishermen most days making several attempts at netting, for the most part pretty successfully.

Back here the garden looks like a war zone, just what is the monster courgette doing on the lawn, runner beans are too mature and I need to sort out an apple support thats failed before the gales hit tomorrow.

7 items to parcel up so far for tomorrow, then DW off up to Manchester to meet social re MIL, who's in respite care atm.

Glad you had a good break rhiw.

Agas are dead posh. The designer label in the kitchen.

I'm still gonna get a flat cap version - rusty ole Rayburn.

I have more bids coming in than lately as it was poor - so that's perked up thankfully.
  • Spied two robins in the garden squabbling over territory, definitely feels autumnal.

Aga, about £35 - £40 a week, I reckon, and then we end up sending surplus heat out the doors on sunny days! Ours is going in a year or so, though with few luxuries at the moment, I don't begrudge its presence now. Anyway, it won't go on till November.

A good sunny Devon day, which was just as well, as my BiL brought his caravan down to store it here. That will set tongues wagging, especially when I leave the lights on inside from time to time! :rotfl:

Sadly, I can see the need for a modern kitchen here, if only to give the house its only wow factor, other than the land. We shan't be spending anywhere else. It's a fine balance with ag-tied places, not to overspend and not to leave them unloved-looking and bodged, as many are, including this one. We are going for second-hand in the utility room, for sure. :)

Is your Aga oil fired Dave or solid fuel? Like a Rolls Royce in the kitchen really. I don't know how you could get rid of it once you've had one.

Funny thing happened. I have quite a few Hazel trees & have bemoaned that I haven't seen a nut - well I did a few weeks back on one tree, quite a few too, but they were white. I went back this afternoon - quite an awkard place to go and there's none, well I got one, a white one. I looked on the ground and didn't see any there. Now last year RAS reckoned we had squirrels but I've never seen any here. I have found nuts that have a hole in the shell & the nut gone. Quite strange.
