Really wet here again & quite stormy.
I sold a large picture to an Australian, but checked the postal rate - £95. Don't think they'll be wanting it now.
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGggggggggggggggggggggg0 -
Really wet here again & quite stormy.
This country is relatively small, yet it can be so different at its extremities.
I saw the clouds and windiness on the weather map up your way, yet yesterday evening it was so still and cloudless here, we stayed out far too late. Scratch dinner and fast asleep by 10pm.:o
Wide awake now!
Re your Australian: there are still some ways that we're not quite a global village.0 -
Wild flowers here are exciting me. Where we have dug down to the clay really round by the pears and its all fallow waiting for everything building to finally finish and us to lanscape I saw yesterday amount the weeds and the wild flowers we have flax.0

Planning man has been & I think that, at last, he appreciates the ridiculous situation.
He's going away to confer & then write with any suggestions they can come up with.
We can't be too optimistic, though. They're restricted by their remit.
Anyway, fingers crossed that some sensible suggestions might come out of it.
The flying ants have decided today's the day - 2 months late. I decided I couldn't be mean enough not to warn him not to leave the windows on his car open when he arrived0 -
That's the most positive you've sounded for a long time, itsme.:)
I believe some planners are genuinely helpful within the discretionary powers they have, but there are others too. My BiL could write a book about the ones he's had to deal with, and he probably will when his build is signed off. It's maybe a good case for the local government ombudsthingy to have a look at.
We're very happy with the new hybrids, which have settled-in and shown no vices thus far. They're docile and friendly, unlike some of our older hens, some of which have become unproductive and prone to feather pecking.
As rhiwfield knows, we've used beak rings with some success, but eventually the beak grows around them and feather removal becomes possible again. We have 3 with rings now. It's probably learned behaviour and we should have removed our original feather eater, 'Punk,' at the outset.
Lesson learned. Next week, none of them will have beak rings, because the 3 offenders will be at Hatherleigh Market! Better than the alternative......0 -
good evening peeps
well still not a drop of the wet stuff has graced my patch...
whilst i dont want a permenant wet time, ONE good downpor would do the trick.:D

Hurrah for fun with the ponies Alfie!
I'm hoping by the end of today I will have broken the back of weeding the white border. Where I have done looks rather bald!
I read the ash ridge trees advice on yews and saw I should have trimmed them twice this summer, not once, but also in October. Well, I won't miss that. No losses, but slow growth, That hopefully means they have been busy establishing and settling in, ready to start a bit more growth next year. If it were not wet this weekend I might have asked DH to do a verge and ditch tidy up. Oh well. We have painting to do INSIDE this weekend instead. Hopefully get the new 'dressing room' painted. Though I fancy wallpaper now........0 -
How am I still not at the end of one boarder? One thin one at that? It just seems to stretch on and on and on.......about two thirds through.
I found a peony I had forgotten....
Also, I did my winter front door pots. I am even thinking about putting out my creepy black autumn wreath soon..
Anyone know where is the best price for pond liners and pumps and filters and that sort of thing?
I have finally decided what to close the pear garden off with, and I think one of you lot suggested it. Medlars. Yep. Keeping the pleached/espalier thing, but no roses, so a nice semi open feeling. I think I can do it with two medlars and patience, if not I can put a cordon of something else either side of the gate into it.0 -
hi all.
LIR.......... what size pond are you thinking of ???
baking hot here today and i mean HOT !!
just off to water garden...AGAIN..
dreading the "man" attempting to find/sort water leak tomorow...i really should have more faith i guess...:(
