What you really need to worry about is the stiffening agent. It may be rendered useless by heat and / or detergent.
I would ask for an estimate from a proper dry cleaner (somewhere you can talk to the person who does the actual cleaning)

I would also consider sprinkling it with talc and rubbing in, leave awhile, then brush off with something like a fairly stiff baby's brush / soft nail brush or similar.

I'm trying to save a bit of money on washing my work clothes at home instead of using a dry cleaners, I don't wear anything too fancy but I am afraid of putting it through the wash, it is made up of...

    54% polyester
    44% wool
    2% lycra

How would you advise I was these? And how would you dry them to ensure that there are no creases and they don't shrink. I have an old pair that I could do a 'trial' on before washing my others.
  • I wash my husbands work trousers on a quick wash with a few other bits using about half the usual liquid wash stuff and white vinegar for rinsing.
Take out as soon as finished, give a good shake and hang up on the shower rail to try for a couple of days (I use 2 trouser hangers with the grip things one for each half or the waist).
Never put in the tumble drier or they will shrink.
    xx
  • no reason why you shouldnt wash them at home BUUUUT if you do it quite often, it wont be long before they are a different colour to the jacket!!!!! found that one out the hard way. dont tumble dry and press using a damp cloth or you will get very shiny trousers.
