Dry clean only?

  • I think that I may be tempted to hand wash it and see how it reacts. If it seems OK, then maybe a wool wash another time.
  • How much is the jacket worth? How much does dry cleaning cost? Maybe wash inside a pillow case? Good luck!
:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A

I`ve just googled it for you and came across this!

Never put your shearling or sheepskin coat in the washing machine or dryer. That will almost certainly ruin your coat.

    Think that`s a No then!!:rotfl:

The above advice is for a real shearling coat.

The op's coat is polyester and the main reason for not using a washing machine is that the 'furry' fibres will get tangled.

Wash in your hand wash/wool program.

You must use fabric conditioner or hair conditioner as this will help ease out the tangles when you need to brush the fibres to fluff them up.

Do not under any circumstances be tempted to put it in the dryer.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!
  • I think I will give it a handwash in Stergene then a short spin. Thanks for all your advice.

  • hiya,

I wonder if you guys may have some suggestions?

My OH has a fairly rigid, cotton, cowboy style hat, in a light beige colour, with a brown band around it.

It's quite sweat stained, and he wants to clean it. There's some instructions on it which have the dry clean symbol, every other symbol is crossed out.

Is there a way I can clean it without taking it to the dry cleaners? My OH wondered about steaming it, but I don't have a steam cleaner and I'm not sure how to go about it?

It wasn't an expensive hat, £10 I think from the market, but he's quite attached to it.

    Thanks

    Any name :)

Not sure if this would work but I remember reading about putting baseball caps on the top rack of the dishwasher so they retain their shape.

I have done that & it works. You may want to chuck in soap powder rather than a dish washing tablet though ! :D It lets the item get wet & washed without being pulverized in the washing machine...;)
