I would, if there are people walking to and fro it will be quite stressful.
She may already have chosen her spot herself, in which case, you'll have a hard time persuading her otherwise, if that's the case, I would just put the towels where ever she's chosen, within reason of course.0 -
as time nears youll probably see her looking for suitable places i find that cats never go where one has made a nest for her, she will pick out a place that i warm secluded and shaded.
usually a few days before birth she starts producing milk from her teats and start to groom the area ready.
our lilly had her kittens in my daughters chest of drawers on her spare uniform. it was near the radiator, no one uses the room much only my youngest who lilly adores and feels comfort when GA is around.
we found them and moved her from there she was happy where we had placed her and kittens she lay and killed one of the kittens due to lack of moving space to feed her young and we had to move to where we did, otherwise we would have let her get on and do he motherly love bit.
caution to your male cat, keep them appart untill he recognises the scent and get comfortable with it.0 -
You should also be prepared to hand feed, just in case. Poor mum is VERY young to be having kittens so many find it a bit overwhelming. Hopefully she'll cope fine though
Don't forget lots of pictures when they're born!0 -
Did you have the pregnant girl from when she was a kitten?
Is she very much used to humans anyway?0 -
Yes had her since she was 10 weeks old.
And yes she is v used to humans I have two girls aged 4 and 6 so she has always been picked up,stroked and played with.
She still isn't showing signs of trying to find somewhere yet so may be another week or so yet!ADVISE-"I advise you get help"

This is a genuine question and not just a criticism - why oh why did you not neuter her before now?
There are so many unwanted cats and kittens, it really makes me despair that people don't neuter and babies end up having babies (at a year old she's really still a baby herself).
Did you just not think it was important? Did you think she was too young? Or did you want her to have kittens? Genuinely interested to know.0 -
:-) Don't really have any 'tips' but have to admit when our family cat had kittens it was an amazing experience and I had so much fun with them. I think I was about 16 but we had two younger kids and my room was 'the safe room' as it was the only place they wernt allowed to go in....
First of you might find she chooses a 'safe place' that is complety not where you wanted! My mum forced her and the kittens into the living room but she went nutty and was hurting her kittens trying to get them back into my room.
Most people say your supposed to leave them alone when they give birth...my mum was working nights when ours went into labour so it was all down to me! She went into an aboustle panic and was running up and down our hallway whilst giving birth!! She actally swung the kitten still on its cord into a door as she had it whilst in a panic...in the end I had a towel and held her *lightly* down... & I knew it was the right thing to do as she calmed down and had the rest of them..she rolled around alittle once she was down which I let her but kept her on the towel but in a strange way I knew she wanted me to intervene after her intital panic ...
She eat all the cords etc so didn't have to cut them and she abanded the first kitten at first but I wrapped her in a towl like I had seen on 101 dalmations no less and kept rubbing and eventually managed to get her sucking on a tit and it was all fine after that.
I suppose every cat is differnert!People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Haha wow kaya what a story!!
I was half laughing and half sh***ing myself!!
And snuggles I guess it was always at the back of my mind-il get her done next month/she's too young she hasn't been in heat yet etc.
I really wish I had got her neutered earlier but what's done is done.
I'm quite looking forward to the kittens and so is my 6year old daughter she loves animals alway watching animal planet/pet hospital/animal cops, so I think it will b interesting for her-I just hope we have no problems!
Boo's tummy has dropped quite a bit so think it could happen v soon!
As soon as she can we are getting her neutered with the help of the pdsa voucher we were sent.ADVISE-"I advise you get help"

Spartacus, thank you for the honest answer. I can sort of understand on an individual level not getting round to doing it, but unfortunately it contributes to a massive problem. But as you say what's done is done.
I hope all goes well and you enjoy having the kittens around, and most importantly that you find safe loving homes for them.0 -
when my old girl cat (rip) had kittens, she was about a year old - when the first one started to emerge, it began peeping and she was going round in circles trying to get to it, but she settled when it was fully born, washing it and caring for it.
if i remember rightly, there was also a discharge from her right at the beginning.
it might be as well to ring your local vet to get some idea of what to expect so you don't panic.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500
