  • Augusts budget:

    Food £200
Petrol £120 (usually £160 but maternity leave starts part way through the month so trying this figure)
Clothes £20 (any forgotten baby bits)
    Other £60 (school holidays treats)

    Lets see how i go....

Needed bread and milk today for mine and dh's lunch tomorrow, dd will be home with mil so they will also need feeding.

Wont need any more food for at least a few days and have a tank full of petrol, dh will need petrol for work tomorrow.
Still here..... but working on that!

i'm really struggling with my August budget. althoguht my mat pay doesnt start to Sep 3rd, obviously my petrol & food will be different in aug as i leave on the 16th.

i suppose we could plan & budget til the end of time but wont know till it comes to!
Facing up to things - nov 2012 total 9334.95
back to work after baby -Jan 2014 - total [STRIKE]6905.28 [/STRIKE](1 credit card) £3535

Debt Free Date March 8th 2017 (31st birthday)
  • Yep exactly, i have full pay this month, and i know i'll end up spending a bit more with dd being off school, and any unexpected baby bits.
My maternity leave starts on the 28th, but i have 2 weeks annual leave before that so i finish on the 13th.

To be honest ive budgeted mostly as normal, but then taken a bit off for petrol as i know i wont/shouldnt use it.

    We'll see.....

  • Managed another nsd yesterday, which is good :)

Today hasnt been one as our car decided to break down and cost me £53 :( could have been a worse figure i know but annoying nevertheless!

Ive decided to join the august advance thread, have been reading the july thread, and really think it will keep me motivated, definately what i need whilst im on maternity and dd being on school hols!

Plan on using my tesco vouchers for a lot (ive got £80 to use before end of sept), and we've got 2 adult and one child cinema tickets so thats another outing :) dd keeps asking to go to a theme park, but i cant go on anything and dont know if ill cope with all the walking that it involves. Think she'll have to give that one a miss for now.

Need to decide how i can use the vouchers for the best and make the most of them now, so we get some nice days out.

  • So it turns out the car isnt fixed and has gone to the garage, just what i need. Luckily i have the money in my bank account so no using my cc :)

  • Joined augusts almighty advance and so far so good!

1 nsd today despite having a lovely day out with dd, mother, dh and nephew :)

Explained how i managed it in the thread, i'm so proud!

Did a food shop yesterday, which ended up a bit more than i'd have liked because oh went to buy some beer for a leaving party, but means i'll just have to be more strict at the end of the month! Very annoying though...

    £67.50200 groceries £3.75/£10 beauty

  • AUGUST advance
    1/20 sfd 67.50/£200 groceries 0/£3 charity 0/120 petrol
3.75/£10 beauty 0/£15 days out 0/£10 treat 7/£20 (forgotten baby clothes)

Update from the august advance :)

At the moment it looks as though ill have around £1800 spare at the end of this month, which is nice. Could possible bring my dfd from may 2017, into 2016??

Should be a nsd today, dont need any food, and my mother owes me £30 £20 of which will go straight into sil's birthday card (bit much if u ask me but thats what they always give me.... So i'll have it back next month :money:

As i've mentioned before dh isn't very into my budgeting techniques etc, so i dont mention it.... But said this morning that I'm trying to not spend any money every day to see how well we do. Which he actually agreed was a good idea!! So we have LOADS of food in, and plenty of milk and bread and I'm in work all weekend, so fingers crossed tight we get two nsd's! However i only have 100 miles left in my tank so will definately need petrol if not tomorrow then monday :'( which i'll use as a chance to top up on essentials, and then should (fingers crossed) by sf until shopping day!

Just realised i bought plenty of food this week for dd, and shes away with her dad until thurs... Should make this weeks food go even further!

  • 2/20 sfd 0/£3 charity 3.75/£10 beauty 0/£15 days out 0/£10 treat £70.73/200 groceries 20/£120 fuel

Day 4 allready.... And unfortunately a spend day, added to grocery budget and fuel :'(

Dh has started talking about moving house, we only moved three years ago, to a brand new 4 bed detached, but ultimately want somewhere right in the middle of nowhere, i might make him a deal, that if he gets on board with the debt busting and we're debt free then we can start to consider it!
This will be a long time away as my current debt free date is may 2017, but may get him involved??

  • Also wanted to add, i had a very very old account, which has been overdrawn for 10 years and I've managed to pay it off!!

So as of this weekend I no longer have an overdraft to my name and will be tackling t3sco cc which I've stopped using (except for points) but have a balance of £1933 on!

MY CURRENT ACCOUNTS ARE ALL IN CREDIT!!!! (For when i read back one day!)

I'm wondering whether to transfer my Next balance onto the cc for the lower rate, and pay them both off as one.

I should really look into getting a 0% cc, i'll have a look into that when i start maternity leave next week.

I've seen some people mention not including their car finance/loan as a debt, but as far as I'm concerned if I'm paying monthly for it then its a debt, when i finally save enough to buy a car outright then I wont include it as a debt in my name.

I need to add my total debt to my sig, think watching it go down will be an inspiration! Spreadsheet is in the car though and I'm not getting soaked walking out there so it can wait until later!

    Hi Littleskintdragon

Have had a good read of your diary, one thing I find is that you have to post everyday or you go missing and then things can slip.

Well done on being in credit on all your current accounts - its a great feeling. 0% cc is a good idea as long as you cancel the other one so you dont double spend.

Keep picking away at the OH, my partner is terrible but won't be told, I keep our finances separate but that is more so I dont tarnish him lol. He's not in debt other than the new second hand car that he bought last week - grrr.

Its interesting what you said about including car loans etc, I would class his as a debt but not mine as mine is 0% forever. However it is a debt and if I didnt have a job it would have to go as its not mine. I think I might have to consider it a debt and start a little pot to try and add to, that can grow interest at the very least should worse case happen. Not much point paying it earlier.

Subscribing to join you on your journey. Congratulations again - bring on the babies! Well not just yet but you know what I mean.
