Sorry, I dont get this reply... 'I word'???
I do have 'parental responsibility' and I take this very seriously(this is why I pay this child maintenance and have him at weekends)
And this is why I am showing concern with his wellfare while on holiday0 -

'Parental responsibility' is a legal term - you don't currently have this because you weren't named on the birth certificate or married to his mother. It's not a dig at your parenting skills towards your son x0 -

I know, but as I have a good working relationship with his mother I would not like to create problems where non exist...
I much prefare that my son is happy and that he does not percieve any problems with his mother and father.
He is bright and happy and I indend to make sure that this doesnt change0 -

This wasn't a dig at you. Parental responsibility is something fathers who aren't married to their children's mother gain when they are included on the birth certificate. If you aren't included on birth certificate then you won't have it.

Hi All
I have an illegitimate son and am considering taking him abroad for a holiday.
I have a good understanding with his mother...
I provide monthly child support directly to his mother
and have hime regulary at weekends...
But I am NOT on his Birth Certificate and was not married to his mother.
His mother would not have a problem with me taking him on holiday, but I am concered with the legal implications... I.e.
Would I be stopped at the airport ( I have a different surname)?
If he needed medical treatment while abroad would this be a problem... ?
Any help or comments would be gratefully recieved...
you need to have written proof for the mother, a written signed sheet, maynot be enough, it might be worth having it notorised.
As for not being on the birth certificate it is possible to get parental resposibility later on from the courts, if the mother has no issues it should be fairly simple0 -

It really is not a nice way to describe your son.
Gordon Bennet.....
I was not married to his mother & I am not on his birth certificate.....
So he is illegitimate.....
It is a legal term.......
In the real world I refer to his as just 'MY SON'
The term was used to indicate the legal possition....
REALLY PEOPLE.... IT IS JUST AN ENGLISH WORD....
AND THE CORRECT WORD FOR THIS INSTANCE.......
JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT LIKE THE WORD, DOES NOT MAKE IT WRONG...
I AGREE I ALSO DONT LIKE THE WORD....
SO PLEASE CAN WE GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION0 -

It has worked for the last 8 years... So I am reluctant to change things and potentially cause a rift between his mother and myself..... His is happy & healthy...
My concern was only for the potential problems in taking him abroad.0 -
Give the OP a break, he has explained himself enough times!0
