i enter car comps not for me as im not allowed to drive due to my epilepsy but i hope to win one for one of my daughters or would sell and split money between them so they could each buy a cheaper car but only because they always take me everywhere so i would be benefitting if you see what i mean. sorry if that sounds unfair but i struggle to give the girls petrol money sometimes least that way it would help them too. they both work hard and struggle to make ends meet so help all roundpma positive mental attitude counts for everything:D

I don't tend to enter car comps as I don't drive myself, but I do enter comp which, say for instance the prize is a car plus £xxxxx, as the ITV comps often are. Hubby drives, so I hope that the prize would be transferable to him.
It's the same thing with holiday/break prizes, especially ones for 2 people, as we have kids and wouldn't be able to go.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
Hello Andrew 71
I won the ITV FA Cup final that included a Vauxhall Astra VXR worth £27 k, I entered the comp mainly for the premiership tickets and VIP FA tickets for my husband. Never once thought I'd win but I did :j
Vauxhall have said they will sell car on my behalf for £23K and I will get £20!!! They are going for approx £25 on autotrader, but with all the hassel that comes with selling a car privatley I will sell through Vauxhall.
So yes, if you win through ITV you can sell your prize car.
Hope this helps.

I always enter car comps, my lovely little Peugeot (hugely expensive, £700 she's worth!
) is just about ready to pack up and I would absolutely LOVE a new car. It would depend on how expensive the car was to insure as to whether or not I could keep it, for example if I won a great big Range Rover or an Aston Martin (haha, dreaming!) it would bankrupt me to insure it, and therefore I would sell it on and get myself a Honda Civic (not thought about this much have I?
).
I don't enter for things I don't want, and have never sold a prize, but if other people choose to do so then that's up to them. End of the day, once you've won something it's yours to do what you like with, and if some people can have a good time with money from a prize they wouldn't have used, then that's fair enough.
The only time it annoys me is for smaller prizes, actually, when it's not valuable enough to sell but the person clearly doesn't want it - in those cases I think it would be fairer to let someone who would have loved it have it (I'm talking like a signed book or a set of special interest DVD's etc) rather than enter for it just for the sake of it.0 -
Does any comp actually have T&C that state you can't sell on a prize? If they did, not sure if they would be legally enforceable... They can state "no cash alternative" which means you can't ask the organisers to give you cash instead but doesn't stop you doing a deal with the car dealer after you've posed for photos etc. If they think they'll get a profit then they'll pretend you drove it round the block and came back 10 minutes later.I need to think of something new here...0

Yes some do say you cannot sell etc and by entering you accept that as part of the terms and conditions.
One statesPrize cannot be sold on for financial gain0 -

Going back to a previous post, can you really see that being enforceable? If you have sold a prize how can they make you give it back? How could they tell you have sold something unless it is either obvious from your selling details or it is a one of a kind prize that is traceable?
I have sold the 3 big prizes I have won, one was due to it not being usable (I won a second hand car, but the Make/Model wasn't known until afterwards), one was not wanted (I won a PS Vita but no games!) and the third as we needed the money (an iPad). I have also won DVD's, Games and Blu-Rays which I have sold/traded after watching/playing.
I only enter competitions for prizes I want, and always with the intention of keeping, but I reserve my right to sell my property if I want to.0 -

They may not find out but if selling breaks the T&C's of entry the entry would become invalid, the "winner" could then be disqualified and they could take action to recover the value of the prize (cannot imagine they would do so).
The fact they may not find out still doesn't give a right to sell the prize, that's no different to saying it's ok to steal etc as long as you don't get caught.0 -
Interesting. I actually pretty much agree with mjm about this, other than I would say that stealing is worse. What I do wonder though, if they say you are not allowed to sell on an item, does that mean forever? So, say I win a car and use it, but then in five years I want to replace it, does that mean that I am not allowed to sell it on then either?
