I enter for anything and often sell prizes or give them to family etc and have no qualms about it. It's just like winning money and whoever I sell the prize to usually gets a bargain.

I don't care if people approve or not, it's nobody's business how I comp or what I do with my prizes - I put the hours in, nothing falls into my lap.

I think people shouldn't judge and call people unethical - I don't judge anyone else. We are all here to win after all.

Great post :T. Get rid of "I Won" and signatures then no-one can be "Judged" ;)

Same with kids competitions, adults entering when they don't have children. Wedding competitions have started requesting proof of marriage, it's a shame it's come to these extremes to make sure the prizes are going to the intended audience. I would not be surprised if childrens birth certificates will be required for prizes intended for children.

My daughter won a prize back at the beginning of the year, which I entered for her, and we had to send a lot of proof of her age and identity. When I spoke to the company they said out of 9 prizes 5 couldn't provide proof so didn't have the prize!

I, personally, don't like entering comps for prizes that I wouldn't want. I don't agree with selling things, but I won't go into that - that's MY feelings. I have a box in my cupboard full with items I've received as part of a prize or a runners up prize which I have no use for. I run a Swap group on Facebook where compers can do just that - swap their unwanted prizes with things they do want - it's a win-win situation then! There are people that enter to sell for charity - I have no problems with that, and have donated numerous things to my girls school for raffles etc.

What annoys me is when people state they want something, give all those stories about how much they really want to win it, then as soon as they do, it's up on the group or on ebay. If you're going to win-to-sell at least be honest about it!

As for the wedding comps, I agree. My OH and I have been engaged for 13 years - with no plan to marry anytime soon, it's too expensive - there are loads of comps for things that could help go towards a wedding but I'm not entering them. There is bound to be someone out there who IS getting married with a very small budget and, while I don't see the point in marriage (it's only a piece of paper at the end of the day) I wouldn't want to deny someone else the chance of winning something to help them have their "perfect dream wedding".

Car comps - if the T&Cs state it can be transferred, I'll enter. My brother will get a nice new car and we'll have a personal taxi service :D
    Thanks to all posters :A

I think the main issue with new car will be Insurance to get it registered at DVLA.
Some dealers ,including Honda, offer a free one months insurance so that may get around that requirement though.
Selling it once it yours seems just the same as selling any win ie up to you.The dealer may even take it prior to registration as detailed on here.
Personally I would just enter & hope :-)

A few years ago I was lucky enough to win a Mini. The RRP was about £15K at the time, but when I asked about cash alternative they would have given me £10K, without me even having to bother taking the car. In the end I kept the car, but it was a tough decision.

Brill, that means that it's fine with all the rest that don't state this in there T&C.

It's soooooo not worth debating this over and over again. Neither side is going to convince the other. To those who don't want to enter comps to sell on prizes I say: Yay! More wins for the rest of us. I appreciate your sacrifice, thanks. Those who do sell prizes, should do so loud and proud. If someone is breaking the T&C, they deserve to be moaned at, anything else is personal choice and we should respect one another's right to decide for ourselves.

I hate the suggestion that we shouldn't post about selling on a prize. I'm not going to be shamed into doing this under cover, like I was selling drugs or something. I won 4 Glamour prizes, I'm not sure but I think 3 of them will be going on eBay at some point. I've checked the T&C, they clearly don't mind people selling their prizes :D

Blulu, Hamsterfan1's post was making a relevant post to the OPs question, not a personal attack on your morals/ethics or whether people should or shouldn't agree.

    Your post -
To those who don't want to enter comps to sell on prizes I say: Yay! More wins for the rest of us. I appreciate your sacrifice, thanks.

Hmm not quite, your wins don't suddenly increase because people choose not to sell their prizes. Interesting logic nonetheless.

Hi Savvy (and Hampster) - please don't think I was offended, I wasn't. I was only adding my opinion to the debate.

Lol, I probably said it badly, but my point re 'more for us' is that those who only enter comps for things they can use personally leave more prizes for those of us who also enter comps to sell on unwanted prizes. Like not entering to win a car because of not personally wanting to use the car means one less entry for those of us who would enter it to sell it if we won.

    OK, my twopenn'orth...
Now my time to comp is more limited, I only enter comps for prizes I want or can earmark for a specific friend / family member. (Love winning prizes for my adored Grand-children!)
However- I have won prizes as part of a package or as runner up prizes I can't / won't use and never intended to win!
E.G. The Alicia Keyes tickets with hotel & travel I asked them to re-draw, other stuff I've swapped, given to friends / family or donated to good cause raffles.
However, I have also put stuff on Ebay and then used the money to treat us. I don't view it an "Unethical" as it wasn't a deliberate plan to win those particular items & thus "Deprive" another entrant, :D LOL!
Worse things will have happened in the world today...
