i dont think its unethical at all the personalised ones like kids prizes or wedding ones would be a bit out of order but if the rules state anyone can enter than thats up the companyWhat goes around-comes around0

I don't drive, but have entered competitions which include cars, but aren't just for cars.
I see no issue there. I want the holiday and the money, the car is a part of that and in which case I would either sell it, or give it to my sister in law.
I don't enter competitions that JUST have cars, purely because I don't want the hassle of signing it off as my sister in laws (would have to have her claim, cause most want insurance details and such) and then having her sign it over to me, so I can sell it on.
I personally don't see anything wrong with it though, after all, most people who enter to win a car already have a car. So they don't NEED one. It's just a chance to upgrade, it's not much different if someone see's the car as a chance to upgrade their kitchen to me. :P0 -
Ah see, if it's part of a bigger prize for a large cash sum and a holiday, you would be able to afford insuranceComping wishlist for 2017

I agree with this, I dont go for comps that wouldnt be suited to me.0 -
I tend to have a 'live and let live' approach to comping.
I must admit that it does irritate me a little when people go on about whether a style of comping is ethical or not. I assume that none of those people enter any of the puzzler type competitions? As surely it is not 'ethical' to enter them unless you have purchased the magazine yourself and completed the crossword or puzzle yourself?
Just a thought ...Thanks to all those lovely people who contribute to this website.

Yeah but you might not be able to drive or want the car itself.Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday
Best Wins: Ipad, Nintendo 3DS, £400 Shopping Spree at LK Bennett, £100 Boots vouchers
Total Wins (Since April 2012) £3442.56
Big thanks to all who post comps :T:beer:0 -

Details, details, if you won a large cash prize and couldn't drive you could afford to learn, if you really don't want the car you could always not enter if it's that much of a big deal
I would keep it but then I don't enter for prizes I wouldn't use. It's like the hourly times competition for the whisky worth £495 a bottle, nope I wouldn't sell it although the rules state you can't anyway, I would share it with friends and family at a special occasion. Madness, maybe, but how many people can say they drunk such expensive whisky? That's the beauty of comping, doing and trying things you wouldn't have normally done otherwise. I guess we are all in it for different reasonsComping wishlist for 2017

I enter for anything and often sell prizes or give them to family etc and have no qualms about it. It's just like winning money and whoever I sell the prize to usually gets a bargain.
I don't care if people approve or not, it's nobody's business how I comp or what I do with my prizes - I put the hours in, nothing falls into my lap.
I think people shouldn't judge and call people unethical - I don't judge anyone else. We are all here to win after all.MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR0 -
It's an interesting discussion. It never really occured to me that people might have an issue with what I did. I wasnt actually a 'comper' at the time. I bought the magazine during a week off, did the puzzles and sent off the entry form, obviously not expecting to win anything. I was living in my overdraft at the time and always running out of money. It was a complete godsend.
Now I comp on here and I do sometimes feel a bit guilty as I don't buy the magazines or browse the websites but still enter the comps - to me that feels worse than selling a prize that I couldn't afford to keep.
I dont enter the wedding comps, partly as the prizes dont interest me and partly because I know how expensive weddings are and how hard people save for them. I do enter baby comps as, although I dont have a baby, I have several in my close family whose parents are struggling with their finances.0 -
Top and bottom of it is, everyone has different ideas about what is right / ethical / moral or whatever you want to call it.
I don't deliberately enter comps aiming to sell the prize if I won, however I have once or twice found myself in the position of needing to sell a prize on in order to raise some much needed funds. I was gutted having to do this, as they were prizes I'd really have liked, but at the end of the day I had bills to pay so off the prizes had to go. My personal opinion is that it's a bit off when I see somebody posting that they've just won something I'd really have loved myself and that they didn't really want it in the first place, have no use for it and will be selling it / giving it away - BUT I also have to consider that they've won that prize fair and square and it is theirs to do with as they wish. No point me stamping my foot and saying "it's not FAIR!!!"
I agree with what some people have said about people with no kids entering family comps and possibly depriving a family of a much wanted holiday, but again that is the individual's choice... when it comes down to it, there is no Comping Law, so me moaning or griping about the way other people do things, is not going to stop them. Nobody's going to have 100% the same ideals.
As regards cars. I do drive, so I nearly always enter car comps. I've just entered one this morning from the Times though, where just looking at the car I can tell that the insurance would be astronomical. If I were ever lucky enough to win that, it'd be straight down the garage and part exed for something more economical to run!!! (And maybe a bit of cash in my pocket too?!)0
