I have a feeling I may of asked this before (if so apologies, the medication combined with my illness means I usually forget). if you win a new car can you sell it back to the car showroom you soon it from? I understand you wouldn't get the price of the car as new but if a new car was valued at 20,000 could you take maybe £15,000 for it?
Anybody come across this situation?

I did this many years ago. I won a car from Take a Break magazine. When I spoke to the garage they asked whether I was planning to keep it or sell it. when I said sell they offered to buy it back from me for trade price. I was happy as I couldnt have afforded to keep and insure the car (was a student in north london at the time) but I got a nice big cheque that took me travelling after graduation and bought me my first (much cheaper second hand) car!0

I don't enter car comps because I don't drive & the win would be better off going to a driver. If you don't want the prize don't enter the comp it's not ethicalproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

From your viewpoint it's not ethical. From other people's it might be perfectly ethical.0 -
I don't feel it was unethical to enter although i didnt know I was going to sell it until after I got the insurance quotes! I was really hard up when I was a student and that win made my life a lot more comfortable in my final year.0

Personally I don't see anything wrong with winning a car if you don't drive.
I know someone who won a car, she took all the pictures for the promotion agency and once she was done the dealer offered her the trade price which she accepted.
The Competitions I think people shouldn't enter are the ones for Disabled people such as 'Win a Wheelchair' or 'Win a Disabled friendly Holiday' unless they are disabled or know someone who is.0 -
I think it's unethical to say something is unethical, without adding 'in my opinion' - in my opinionI am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apology
THIS IS ME!

I would probably sell it as doubt I could afford the insurance on most of them for more than a month! I just make sure that I read terms and conditions carefully for each comp. Some say that you have to have full driving licence and/or that you have to show them proof that you have insured the vehicle before they will give you the prize so if you can't drive at all then probably not worth entering those ones.2008: £783.12 - 2009: £6,401.15 - 2010: £4,230.61 - 2011: £8720 - 2012: £2,041.89
2013: £134.960 -
I can see where hamsterfan1 is coming from, if you are lucky enough to win, it is your prize to do what you want with but personally I think it rubs a lot of people up the wrong way, it's not good comping karma to enter for prizes to sell or you can't use in my opinion.
There was a lady who posted a few years ago that entered a wedding competition to win a designer wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses for their wedding, except she wasn't getting married and had no intention of using the prize. Whilst that was her choice, I can't help but feel that there was a comper out there who truly deserved to win that prize and maybe it would have made the world of difference to them. I have seen posts from childless adults entering for holidays for families with children, asking if the promoters 'would mind', of course it's up to the promoter but not the intended audience there are lots of families with children that could only dream of having a family holiday.
Same with kids competitions, adults entering when they don't have children. Wedding competitions have started requesting proof of marriage, it's a shame it's come to these extremes to make sure the prizes are going to the intended audience. I would not be surprised if childrens birth certificates will be required for prizes intended for children.
Back to the original question, your prize, your choice. But you may upset a few people by posting about it.Comping wishlist for 2017

Its not winning a car, but when Ive bought a car from a dealership before I had to prove then I was insured to drive it home before they would let me take it. So the whole having to prove you have insurance is probably due to the garage giving you the car, not the actual comp themselves. Not sure if its a legal requirement, I think it is, but I may be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time :rotfl:)
If a car is only part of the prize (say with Daybreak) should those who dont want the car not enter then? Personally I dont enter for comps with a prize I wouldn't find a use for, but I have no problems if people win a prize with the intention of selling it.Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday
Best Wins: Ipad, Nintendo 3DS, £400 Shopping Spree at LK Bennett, £100 Boots vouchers
Total Wins (Since April 2012) £3442.56
Big thanks to all who post comps :T:beer:0 -
Thank you for the feedback. I do have a driving licence and if we could afford the insurance etc I'd gladly take the car. however if I wished to sell it back to the showroom then that would be my choice. I could take the car drive it around the corner then sell it to Bob @ Bob's autos.0
