Personally I believe that mods should be impartial and therefore objective in their approach. Someone who has gone through BR like we have would probably be subjective and not keep the forum open. The last thing we want is censorship for its own sake. I fully agree that several comments have been, well, just made by lunatics who need to get a life, really. We do however have a free speech policy in this country and caution needs to be exercised to preserve that don't you think?

while im figuring out how to do it can we have nominations or offers or somthing like that for mods
Hi Bart,
Yes I do, I think objectivity has to play a part but there also needs to be an empathy with people that are posting for the first time. You saw what happened on Friday, that can't be allowed to happen again and it's not the first time in the last couple of months. I'm absolutely certain that if you saw me or any of the other Bky members berating somebody for no good reason you'd pull the Post and warn the Poster. I'd be honoured to nominate you.

I'm normally on the DFW board, and tend to wander over occassionaly but not reply cos I don't know much about BR. I also didn't see any of the inflammatory posts over the weekend, but wanted to add my support to the suggestion that maybe a few extra board mods could help get unsuitable posts withdrawn quicker.
As I understand it part of the original thinking behind a BR board was to provide more specific advice, and to make it a completely supportive place with absolutely no discussion on the rights & wrongs of BR as a principle, so IMHO I think anything slightly inflammatory should be pulled - and those of you who have been through the BR process will understand far more what comments are most likely to upset newbies & oldbies alike.
Unfortunately there are those out there who will be attracted by the name of board to express their own opinions - personally I think they should be pitied as they've been born without the empathy gene! I hope that the situation gets sorted out, and that the board isn't threatened as a result as it's a lifeline to so many people.Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

The trouble with trolls is, if there's not a BG around for a few hours then the thread won't be noticed by them. Same with reporting abuse, if the abuse team have gone home for the day then the thread will hang around til someone on the team logs in. Til then, it's very difficult not to reply - my solution is to back away from the computer then moan to mr tru about them. He doesn't even answer me, just looks at me like I'm insane :rotfl:Bulletproof0 -
Oh well yes, I see how it would be great to have 24 hour a day mods, but who's going to pay for themBulletproof0

Hi Remmer,
I agree with you, I feel distinctly uncomfortable with the "Big Brother" appoach and the "I know what's best for everybody" attitude. My only reservation is that when you're dealing with people who could well be near the end on their tether there does need to be empathy as well as objectivity.
It really is quite simple, some of those posts over the last few day were unforgiveable and any reasonable person would have deleted them without thinking.
Did you find out what had happened?

Just to clarify, I wouldn't be interested in doing anything other than moving the clearly inflammatory posts which go against Martin's sticky or deleting the ones that wouldn't be found acceptable on any of the boards. If it was possible I'd move them to the forums he's suggested they should have appeared in in the first place. I'm not interested in correcting every spelling/grammatical error, or every point of view I disagree with - I just want the stuff that shouldn't be here to be removed asap so that we don't keep having the abuse & the resulting post mortems that have appeared several times over the last few months. If contacting the abuse team can resolve that (& I think they do need to be quicker off the ball than they were at the weekend), then that's fine by me, but if it can't then I'm up for having extremely limited powers to move the post elsewhere or delete them altogether.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

I have no idea what the official MSE team's hours are but I'm pretty sure there's not a 24-hour rota just for keeping an eye on the forum :think:Bulletproof0 -

I'm flattered mate but I don't think it's for me! If anything I'm trying to spend less time on here! :rotfl:
Plus I lose me rag too easily!
Aw SS,
I take that as a compliment mate; have one on me
My O.H would like me to spend less time on here. :rotfl: I don't lose my rag easily but I'm probably the least objective member of this Forum
Just finished the last major tasks after moving house and I've now got all our fishing gear in one place. I knew something was a bit "iffy" when we moved and when I opened the rucksacks that we store bait in the mice had obviously had a field day while the gear had been stored at the rented place. Phew, you really need to be/have been an angler to appreciate that little delicacy; there should be a "puke" Smiley on here
Next decent weekend / bank holiday, I'm gonna be "messing around on the river" well lake.0
