This is the one I use, very simple to follow, and I often add a bit of garlic and herbs to is as well, or some chilli works well also. I am sure GF flour would work too. They freeze ok as well.

yep, they're the ones :) I'm thinking if I substitute the flour for gluten free flour it should still work but have never made them before so looking for a tried and tested recipe.

Hmmm, wonder if I can freeze them too?

Speaking of freezing stuff, does anybody know if I make fishcakes can I freeze them before cooking them so that I can defrost them when I need them? (you can tell I'm a newbie to all this pre making stuff can't you?!)

I think using gluton free flour should work ok but havent tried it
and yes you can freeze your fishcakes before cooking.

  • Doing well so far. 4 days into the challenge and I have done one big shop and a top up shop as they didn't have some of the things I needed in stock so I had to go back and get those. We had hotdogs on sunday for dinner as I had some YS rolls in the freezer I needed to use up and I fried up some onions and they were great. I also made a nut roast on sunday for yesterdays tea so we had that with HM chips and beans. Was meant to have jacket potato but the potatoes were a bit soft with some green bits so I turned them into chips instead. Got some nut roast left over and will have that for tea tonight if OH fancies it again. Bought some pastry instead of making it for a pie I will make on thursday. Going to my grandparents for dinner tomorrow, so a free tea! DD didn't like the nut roast so she had some turkey nuggets from the freezer.

So far I've spent £63.26/£250.00 and I have enough food for a few weeks but I'm sure OH will be complaining there isn't any snacks so I will pop out to homebargains tomorrow and get some bits in.

NS day yesterday and should be one today too. I haven't got to buy anything as DD is at her dads for tea and we have plenty in. Not going anywhere in this weather! x

Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

Thanks, will give them a go tonight after I've been shopping. Silly question but do I freeze them before or after cooking them?

Love the idea of adding chilli to them!!!

So coming in over budget last month but on a positive note because I got to use my £5 off £40 spend voucher - allocated some spend to this month.
In return i got another £5 off voucher & a £5.98 price promise money voucher - I feel that I can justify £8ish overspend against £10.98 off my next shop so effectly £2ish in credit; that's how I'm looking at it anyway lol x

we never realised how expensive it was either until we took the kids off it. It's a shame we can't get stuff on prescription for the kids, the doctors will only give it to coeliacs but our kids are autistic and gluten affects their behaviour immensely, unfortunately there haven't been enough studies over here to prove the affect a change in diet can have autistic behaviour. Oh well hopefully my gf cooking will help :D

Hi. have you not looked into getting a prescription for your children at least if they are coeliacs?? Not sure where you live but we live in Scotland and my OH gets to choose up to 18 items a month ( which he rarely does) on his prescription which helps enormously with our budget ( I think you do have to have been diagnosed with Coeliac disease to get a prescription).

Not sure the wraps will work with GF flour as they may be awful brittle and dry? I did try making chapatis GF once and they didnt really work.

Another NSD today. Cooking the Potato and Spinach curry tonight with Spinach from our garden and LO Naan from the freezer. had LO Lentil Bolognese for our lunches.

Well better get back to wallpaper stripping...
Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)
    Grocery challenge November : £291.65/300.00 NSD 10
Grocery challenge December : £0/240.00 NSD

I can't get any on prescription as the kids are gf as it helps them manage some of their autistic behaviour, it's amazing how much harder it is for them when they've had even a tiny bit of gluten.
