I can't quite believe it. Another NSD for me today! Thats 2 in a row! Down to 2 slices of bread which will do ED's packed lunch tomorrow, and have enough milk left for tomorrows breakfast so will have to go to the shops tomorrow.

Was invited out for lunch today (all paid for), so todays lunch will be made tomorrow instead. Already planned the meals for the next few days. Think i'm finally starting to get into the swing of it!

£2.10 spent in Mr S yesterday.

Housemate cooked more last week because got carried away with salad, cooked chicken, gefilte fish balls etc from M+S last week.

Means I need to cook more this week, but the weather means I have less inspiration than usual. Need to start thinking summer dishes with turkey breasts rather than curries! Not one to complain - loving the weather - but it came just as I was planning more wintery meals! :rotfl:

£5.00 odd spend, but have mislaid my receipt. I will amend and add on when i can have another look at the goods purchased, as some were YS goods ( bread, strawberries and blueberries). Sports day so quick tea purchased as totally unorganised on following mealplan, plus milk.

Can't get on here as often at the mo, unless my laptop is co-operating or i borrow a DDs ipod, as my phone is in for repair and pc tower needs repairing again too, aswell as laptop on it's very last legs also :(.

Another NSD here but will need fruit & salad stuff tomorrow so we are going to a market that haven't been to for years. It used to be a big one and they shut the whole street off but have heard its nothing more than 3-4 stalls now. Will see for myself tomorrow.

Will menu plan tomorrow but am aiming to use stuff from the freezer for the basis of at least 3 meals next week.

Good luck Cherry pie and hope you manage to work out how to put on pictures. (If I can - anyone can)

Hi all not sure if this is where I should ask but has anyone got a recipe for Date flapjacks. I saw one last week but have forgotten where I saw it! Only I am baking tonight and have some dates that someone gave me that need using up.Grateful for anything you could come up with.:)

Hi, I think you have been looking at frugalqueen's blog. She has a recipe on there for date flapjacks. I know this as I went out and bought some dates and oats yesterday to have a go at them.

    Whole Oat & Date Slices

    Ingredients
    • 150g / 5oz Whole jumbo oats
    • 150g/ 5oz wholemeal flour
    • 85g / 3oz muscovado sugar
    • 150g / 5oz butter
    • 1.5 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1-2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1lb / 450g dates * You will also need 2 of 28cm x 18cm baking tins, well greased
    Method
    • Simmer the dates in water for about 10 minutes until soft
    • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C
    • Put the oats, flour, sugar and baking powder in a bowl
    • Rub in the butter
    • Sprinkle half the mixture over the bottom of the tin
    • Press down to form a base
    • Arrange the filling carefully and evenly over the base
    • Sprinkle over the remainder of the oat mix evenly over the filling
    • Press down firmly all over
    • Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes
    • Leave in the tin to cool for 10 minutes
    • Cut into squares and cool on a wire rack

    Hi everyone,

NSD yesterday as I was working. Will pop to Ts later to take advantage of the petrol voucher also need some f&v to see us through to the weekend.

Tea tonight is breaded haddock, hm chips and peas. DS1 has a concert after school so will have something there, DD has her school production tonight so needs to be back at school for 6.15pm. We will probably eat at 5pm!!!

Hope everyone is going well. Have had the first of the strawberries from the garden and courgettes/climbing French beans are coming along a treat. We are also growing sweetcorn but I'm not sure how they will do.

    Have a great day everyone

Well change of plan today as when rang mum she didn't sound too good so brought her here to keep an eye on her for the day. Think the sun has gotten to her a little bit that's all. This resulted in not going to the market we had planned to go to and on a good point turned it into a NSD.
Tea tonight will just be a snack maybe beans on toast as we are going to eldest Grandsons leaving service tonight. High school in Sept for him!!!!

Elsiepac, here is recipe as promised.
    150g/5oz bread
    butter
    50g/2oz sultanas
    2 tablespoons of white sugar
    1 large egg
    1/2 pint milk
    nutmeg (I used ground)

    1. Butter a dish of approx. 1 litre capacity
    2. Butter the bread and cut into small pieces (I cut mine into 3x3)
place half the bread into the pie dish, sprinkle on sultanas and half the sugar. Cover with the remaining bread.
    3. Beat the egg and milk, pour over the bread and leave for 30 mins.
    4. Sprinkle top with remaining sugar and put on a little nutmeg.
    5. Bake in a moderate oven, 180c, 350F for about an hour.

This is the recipe I use for bread and butter pudding, its off the first page index.

Also as a variation you can make jam or marmalade and use these. sandwiches
