  • Weekly shop yesterday at Sainsbugs, spent £30.80 which is over our usual budget but had a very cheap few weeks and got some things that will last over to later weeks, deodorant for me, 2 packs of beef - one for this week and one for the freezer, and LOADS of lollies seeing as this heat's here to stay!

Hubs spent 0.80 on bread, so our total is 152.95 with one more weekly shop to go. Looking good!

Haven't been on for a few days, been very busy sorting out a new car.
I have had quite a few NSD days when it comes to groceries, but did a big shop on Tuesday to see us through the rest of month except for some fruit, veg and milk and bread.
    Spends:
    £31.48 in Ald*
    £21.22 in Mr T
    £13.00 in Icel*nd
    £7.00 in PLand
That did include baby nappies and formula milk as well. Will update sig shortly.
Then our fridge freezer broke yesterday :( Day after the big shop.
Luckily my mum has came to the rescue and has bought us one as our Xmas present early (much, much more than she would usually spend, but she is treating us all a bit at the moment because she has released some equity in her house to set her business up, and help with some other stuff she has been putting off for years, and as she is mortgage free, she chose to enjoy herself a bit for a few years)
Hope you are all having a nice time in this beautiful sunshine. Long may it last. :)
Mum of 2 monkey. 4 yrs and 2 yrs :j
    Starting again...

Did anybody watch the BBC programme on budget food last night?

Worth a watch in iPlayer if you get time.

If not here's a link to the bbc website with budget recipe ideas.
Ahhhhhh I'm not allowed to post links being a fairly newish user and all - if you go to the bbc website and put /budgetmenu following the co.uk you shall find it :)

I'm afraid I haven't been on here for quite some time but I'm going to try and rein in my food spending over the next few months so you might see a bit more of me. As of September I will be a student midwife and need to find some financial coping strategies - my food spending is off the rails at the minute :(

Thanks for that. Will check it out on iplayer. Good luck with the midwife course and reducing your spending. :)

Hi, I think you have been looking at frugalqueen's blog. She has a recipe on there for date flapjacks. I know this as I went out and bought some dates and oats yesterday to have a go at them.

    Whole Oat & Date Slices

    Ingredients
    • 150g / 5oz Whole jumbo oats
    • 150g/ 5oz wholemeal flour
    • 85g / 3oz muscovado sugar
    • 150g / 5oz butter
    • 1.5 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1-2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1lb / 450g dates * You will also need 2 of 28cm x 18cm baking tins, well greased
    Method
    • Simmer the dates in water for about 10 minutes until soft
    • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C
    • Put the oats, flour, sugar and baking powder in a bowl
    • Rub in the butter
    • Sprinkle half the mixture over the bottom of the tin
    • Press down to form a base
    • Arrange the filling carefully and evenly over the base
    • Sprinkle over the remainder of the oat mix evenly over the filling
    • Press down firmly all over
    • Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes
    • Leave in the tin to cool for 10 minutes
    • Cut into squares and cool on a wire rack

Hi All, 2 NSD for me but off to shop this evening and spent £2.00 on my free range eggies today. Needed a few more as was approached yesterday about making goodies for the cake stall at the village summer fete on Saturday. Thought I would do a Victoria Sponge and some Cheese Scones. Up early tomorrow to to miss the heat and get cooking.
Enjoy the sun all (Not that I enjoy the heat but like the sun.....if that makes sense......Feet look like puddings!!!)

Well our local Ald! has had a revamp and the fresh produce is being displayed much better and even looks a lot better quality, so today brought more of it from here and fingers crossed its good as I know others say theirs last. (It used to look very tired and rather wilted)Spent £32.58 in total and here are some of the fresh things we picked up -

and lunch using some of them up -

Belselmo - good luck and enjoy the course. Have 2-3 friends who are midwives and they love it.

billie-jo - Is that quiche or frittata? It looks a really nice lunch. I never think to add little silver skinned onions to mine. Good idea!

I've got in a real mess with my receipts and can't remember which I've counted and which I haven't. Heads not functioning right at the mo. Time to draw a line this month as I already know I've gone over my budget.

In order not to just go wild this last shop of the month I think I'll just give myself £35 to spend so I've leashed it in a little and now plan for the following weekend when I can start afresh. :)
