  • I've just updated my signature. I've got some unexpected journeys for work next week (meetings in a different office 2 hours away as mgr is off sick) which I can claim travel for, but it won't get paid until my August payday now, so I'm hoping I can stretch my food to last until 28th!

I usually spend a lot more on food by this point, so I've done ok, but I'm not sure if its because its still a novelty and I will slip back into old ways eventually. I will be trying not to do this though!

£1 spend on tampons yesterday, no spends today. Did pop into Mr M's to check the prices of the stuff I'd misplaced my receipt for - £4 on two packs of frozen raspberries (to make jam - total revelation to me how much cheaper it is than fresh and the jam was just as good :D), £1.05 on risotto rice, £1 on salad. Will update sig.

Had penne arrabiata for dinner (sauce from freezer so OH just had the pasta to cook, I was at an exercise class so back late) with a little side salad, was delicious :)

    NSD here.
    Plan another NSD tomorrow.
For dinner we had Granary French Stick - buttered + bacon + poached eggs. I had 2 eggs but you can't see them that well in photo. Dinner was yummy - quick, cheap and delicious. French stick was YS. It had been in the freezer so I freshened it up in oven.

Have done a top up shop today and hit on some great 5p and 10p YS bargains on veg and bakery stuff. Also got milk, cereal, fruit, sparkling water, flour, cheese and yogurts. Total spend was £14.45 so we are still on track and I will not need any more bread, rolls or breakfast bits this month.

You need ground rules in that house share. No decisions made until discussed.

Well it hasn't been a problem in the two years I have lived here, I think it's just partly because of the new housemate we have, who has a bit more money than sense! In the end, we put a reasonable amount of the food in the freezer for next time, so I will pay it this time, but the next time to buy BBQ food, I will say beforehand that I can't afford it to be as expensive as this time was.

At the end of the day, I'm not looking for everything to be Tesoc's value, but I hate going to BBQs and having people say they can't abide a cheap sausage, so you always have to be the one to financially compromise to them, and they will never compromise to your level... Needless to say, the next BBQ, I'm going to jump to do the shopping myself!

Glad that some of the food was frozen for the next one, that will help.

I think BBQs can work out very expensive if its an impulse thing and due to our weather it usually is but I find keeping an eye out for YS steaks, sausages and gammon and saving them in the freezer on the off chance that I might have a BBQ really helps, the food will be used eventually anyway.

Up extra early today to clean my kitchen before it gets too hot and I want to make pastry as I got 8 individual non stick quiche tins, the ones with the loose bottoms, in the CS for 2.00.

I am just going to line them with the pastry and freeze them ready for when I have some bacon and mushrooms to use up.

I cut one of the YS beef joints I got from Morrisons into steaks and froze so have taken a steak out for dinner. I like to cook them in a foil parcel with onions, tomato, pickled peppers and a slodge of pesto. They only take 30mins in the Halogen together with a baked potato. Nice tasty meal for little effort
