Hey Guys, you'll have to count me out for this month - I'm working offshore so won't actually have to buy any food - to participate would feel like cheating! I'll be watching your progress anyway, good luck to everyone :D

    Count me in :)

Went over budget in May by just under £4, which I'm pleased with as the budget is low - I overspent at Iceland as they had 20 lollies for £2.....it was a hot day...I bought 2 packs....they are still in the freezer as I make our own lollies from homemade smoothies and everyone prefers them *sigh* - I am usually really careful to not buy stuff on impulse, so lesson learned!!

Allowing a tenner more to the budget over the next couple of months, as although I put a little aside each week for PYO, it is now strawberry season and the PYO farms open in the next week or so and I need sugar and lemons to make masses of jam :D

June budget £140 for food / cleaning / toiletries for the seven of us, plus the dog (who doesn't need much in the way of toiletries!!)

Hello OSers - I'm new to MSE but really keen to join in and get to know you all. I'm going on a self-catering holiday for a week in June with my OH (my DS has just flown the nest and his DS and DD aren't coming) so I'm going to give us a generous £200 for the month to allow for holiday treats.
How do you do the signature thing at the bottom of your posts?
    Julia

    Hi julia,

Welcome to MSE and in particular to Old Style. :)

To add your signature, click on Quick Links (towards the right hand side of the beige bar above) and there is an option to Edit Signature.

For a better explanation than mine, have a look in Sra's Unofficial A-Z and look under Signatures for a guide with pics.

Right Im in too ( if I may :o ) my budget for May was supposed to be £150 but if you look at my signature I am well over £200  I have put every receipt into that total and we have had 2 take aways on top of that too - so next month my budget is £175 :o I went well over budget because I packed in smoking and pretty much lived on magnums for a few weeks :p not a good diet but they were on bogof and it was all in a good cause  . So I will be starting as of next friday on my new monthly budget. I have been meal planning for the whole of May and have done pretty well but June has got to be better. I lost my job recently so we have to start sticking to the plan.
Anyway I will be checking in regularly and wish everybody all the best for Junes Grocery Challenge.
Oh and £175 is for 1 adult, 1 13yo DD, 1 DDog and 1 rabbit.

going for....£520 again this month as we are ordering some meat from a farm in the form of half a pig, quarter of a cow and half a lamb to fill the freezer with so that will cost a bit to begin with.

    Hi Everyone,
I'd like to join in this month as after reading posts on this site I realise how rubbish I am at budgeting. I usually spend something like £560 a month (told you I was rubbish) However I am going to take the bull by the horns and aim for £400 this month. My household has two adults two teenagers (one is an athlete and eats for England) and various unannounced teenage guests, the wastage in my house is shocking, oh yes I nearly forgot my gorgeous little dog.
    My month will start Friday.

I started my budget for June yesterday. It was the only free Saturday we have for the next 4 weeks at least to be able to go to the nearest Asda (a 40 min drive from where I live) to do a stock up on stuff that is cheaper there than in my local Sainsburys. Also there is a good butchers there in the same town as the Asda, so I stocked up on my meat as well :-) I've set a budget of £400 which will feed a family of 9 plus my daughter who is arriving from America next week for a month with my two grandchildren. Although one is only 5mths, so she won't need a lot of food lol. I spent £229.95 altogether which I think, if my maths is right, leaves me with aprox £42 a week.

So. All the best to you all. May you be blessed with plenty of bargains this month, and may you all reach your targets :-)

seem to have gone off rails a wee bit the last couple of months, and am just going through things now to work out April and May totals.
Will update my sig in a bit, but just wanted to say I am in it for June
Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)
    NSDs: 3
    Walk to school: 2/47
    Bloater challenge: £0/0lbs

  • I've seen this mentioned in a few signatures and watched with interest....so I'm going to jump right in and join the June challenge. There's just me and a moggy who live here, althought my other half, who is a golfter and eats for England (!) is here from Friday to Sunday and one evening through the week. I have no real idea what I spend a week on groceries and cleaning, so I'm going to set my weekly budget at £25 and go from there. Roll on 1st of June - I'm up for the challenge! :)
