I'd like a 3rd account too and to apply as you did to save the 20 questions and script. Be interested to see if you get online by selecting 'no' as you already have internet banking as I do.

    I'll let you know.

Well, it's been 24 hours since I applied and nothing showing when I log on yet.

savetilibleed: Account's still not showing, so rang them to see if they could see anything their end. They said they'd received the application today (I applied on 17th) and I was told that I'd find out within the next 3 to 5 working days as to whether or not it's been accepted. If it is accepted, I'll let you know if it appears along with my other Halifax/BoS accounts when using existing log in details (I know theoretically it should).

So far I've managed to open two BoS Vantage accounts - both online... I've been leaving it about a week between applications. This week I applied for my 3rd, but nothing has showed up online yet... so don't know if they just have a back-log (as a human being has to manually set each up) or if I've been declined!

Also for those who have asked... if you already have BoS online credentials (or indeed Halifax ones) you can choose 'No' when asked if you want to set up Internet banking as your new account should simply show up on your existing online logon.

Something else for folks to consider..... Lloyds TSB will soon be splitting in two, becoming either 'Lloyds Bank' or 'TSB'. The customers who end up with TSB are having their Vantage accounts renamed to 'Enhance' So after the split happens... I guess that means we can have 3x BoS Vantage accounts, 3x Lloyds Vantage accounts AND 3x TSB Enhance accounts to give us 3% on up to £45k in total!

Hi, I currently have a Reward account with BOS and interested in applying for Classic account. On my internet banking service it says I cannot apply for additional account. Their is no problem with my internal score/CRA - I can upgrade upto Platinum without a problem.

If I make a new application through their website will that undertake a new credit search?

    Thanks

I think it probably will mean a new credit search, though you can specify that you don't want an arranged overdraft on your new account, so I wouldn't imagine it would have any negative effect on your credit file.

Though I think there are problems with opening accounts online at the moment.... normally you apply and they appear online next day, but according to the forums there's myself and at least two others who have applied online this week and are still waiting... so I think BoS may be having issues at the moment... maybe worth waiting until we know things are back to normal!

Yeah, I've had the same issues. I could upgrade to the Premier account but couldn't get a second account.

Phoned them up, gave me a Classic Vantage there and then and it showed up on my Online Banking within a couple of hours. Their phone staff are very nice which made it all the better!

A new credit search will probably have a negative effect on your credit file, but only temporarily. Be more negative the more times you apply (and get credit searched) in a short time. I have a Experian trial just now and the account I applied for showed as a negative initially, but two days later, that negative is removed.

I have just opened 3 BOS current accounts, 3 LLOYDS current accounts and a Norwich & Peterborough Building Society Gold Account each time a credit check was made and I was allowed to open all accounts automatically. Are you saying this would show up on my credit rating?

Yes it will. If you want to apply for a loan/mortgage/credit card etc in the near future (next 12 months or so), they might turn you down because they might think you have enough available credit. If you don't want to make any such applications, don't worry.

Didn't know that, just shows you learn something everyday. Don't think I will need any of the above in the next 12 months or so. However, we have kept a £100 with our mortgage providers to keep it open and also look after the deeds all free of charge so if the worst case scenario happened I could always ask them for a loan!!!!
