    I'd say it is.

    The differences are;

    7.2mp compared to 6.0mp
    more scene modes (Pet, Aerial)
More pixels on the LCD screen
    Higher ISO settings

But it's nearly £100 more, so as per usual you gets what you pays for.
I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!
    Quidco and Topcashback, £5,687
    ShopandScan, £3,470
    Tesco Double The Difference, £2,700
    Thomson EU261/04 Claim, £1,700
    British Airways EU261/04 Claim, EUR1200

I got my FZ8 from this seller on Ebay

Good value at under £190 delivered, I thought, with the card included. Of course you have to be careful on Ebay but I had no problems and prompt delivery.
They also sell by auction if you want to save a few quid more

This thread got me interested in updating our cam - when it was no longer avail at the headline price I started researching full SLRs - to discover to my amazement that nearly all digi SLRs DO NOT ALLOW AN LCD IMAGE PREVIEW when taking pics! My wife strongly prefers LCD previewing & often likes to hold the camera up above her head to compose. Most SLRs are out!

So now I am even more interested in cameras like the Lumix but of course not at much more that this thread's headline price. There is the new DMC-FZ8EB-K model already avail at £220 today so will keep an eye on this one over the next 6 months. Also I'll have a look at the Kodak in the above post. Digi SLRs came down by £100-200 in just the last year so patience pays on this type of thing!

I have one of these cameras reserved at Argos until end of business today, reviews tend to suggest that this camera has faults with noise and focus BUT is still a great camera!?!?!?! Im REALLY not sure what to do for the best, can anyone who has one of these let me know if they are any good?? I class myself as an enthusiatic experienced amateur and love taking pix of my 3yr old son so need it to be able to cope with fast moving shots etc, but general REAL views on performance would be VERY much appreciated!!

    Thanks guys!!!

frakison; I have no 'real' experience of this camera and have been looking at either this type or a beginners Digital SLR, I read as many reviews as I could about this Panasonic and whilst it takes good shots in good light the issues with the high noise levels at ISO, above 200 even, has put me off permanently. My main reason for this is due to past experience with a Ricoh camera I bought and I ignored the suggestions about high noise levels and got it, however I regretted it and sold it quickly.
The high noise levels just made the photos look unprintable and lacked sharp detail.
But, at the end of the day I think that no camera is perfect and they all seem to have their good and bad points (unless you want to spend thousands!). So I would say it depends when you take most of your photos and if the answer is in bad light (and where you don't want to be using flash) I would look at cameras that don't produce so much image noise.
    I hope this helps.

Thanks marklar, I know what you are saying. I have the nikon 4300 at the moment and I have taken around 7000 pictures with it (and my son is only 3!!!!!). The pix that produces have always been excellent in its "perfect conditions" but thats only around 60% of the time. It too suffers noise and many blurred shots, so the Panny could only really be the same if not a bit better, HOWEVER, when there are other capable cameras for say £50-£100 more it doesnt really make sense to go and blow £150 right now.... does it????

Seller registered in the US - makes me wonder if you pay VAT with this seller even though they ship from the UK, also about the Warranty. Apparently there was a 20% manufacturer's price reduction on this model compared to the FZ7 this might explain why the special offer on the F27.

There are various bits of software which will denoise yer pics. The noise isn't that bad on my FZ-3, only rarely has it made me wince (i.e., in low light). I've usually been able to auto-tweak my photos (in a batch, takes a couple of clicks) and they're always improved.

    HTH,
    Mike.
