Just found this excellent 12x zoom camera at PC world for £149.89, and there is a 5% PC world discount in the MSE discount code forum here.

Looks like very capable award winning camera, just superceeded by a slightly revamped model the Z8. I was looking at the Fuji 6500 talked about in another post but decided to go for this model. Its light with anti-shake & Leica lens. The camera is £200 at Amazon.
Cheers

Argos are selling it for £149.99 now for anyone who can't get to PC world.
I'd say the Panasonic is a lot better than the Fuji one.0 -

Theoretically, but nowhere has any stock. However Currys are doing it in store at the same price and they had stock this afternoon.newkidontheblock wrote: »I'd say the Panasonic is a lot better than the Fuji one.
The facility to take SD cards, anti-shake and Li-ion battery made the decision for me. It is considerably smaller and lighter than the Fuji, which may be a pro or con, depending on your point of view.0 -
I REALLY hate this forum - that's 3 cameras I've bought because of bargains in 9 months.
Fuji V10 - 8 months ago
Fuji S6500fd - 2 weeks ago
Panasonic - today
Anyone want a Fuji 6500 brand new!! LOLI didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!

The reviews I read especially rated the optics, and there is also the option to add supplemental lenses like macro & extra zoom, albeit at some cost. I was geared up towards moving to a DSLR but was swayed to stay with a more serious compact after factoring in features, size and costs.0

Haha - If I weighed up money saved compared to extra stuff bought after discovering this site I'm fairly sure I would still be better off ... !0 -
Don't be too keen to get rid if the 6500.
I've got a 6500fd, a Canon S3 IS, and access to an FZ7.
They're all nominally in the same class, but I actually prefer the 6500 to the other two for a couple of reasons.
The 6500 has a 'proper' zoom control on the lens rather than a rather detached feeling little lever. Makes composing a photo much more precise
Also, note the 6500fd goes to 28mm at the wide end, which is rather more use than the 35 or 36mm of the other two.
Yes, the lack of IS on the 6500fd is a pity, but if you're creative with the auto ISO modes, it's not too much of a problem, and the payback with lower sensor noise for flash free indoor photography is a bigger advantage for me.0 -
I suppose IS means you don't have to carry a tripod as often, but very over-rated for "normal" use (decent light, appropriate shutter speed) - certainly wouldn't rule a camera out (or flog it before I'd used it in anger) due to lack of IS.
Currently using a Fuji S9600 (or S5600 for holidays) until I go DSLR - Canon or Olympus so I can use my manual SLR lenses with an adaptor.0 -
The things I really like about this camera as opposed to the Fuji are;
Li-ion battery means no buying rechargeables, and quick to charge
12x zoom, even better than the 10.7x of the Fuji
OIS - as stated a nice feature if you can have it at same price
Size and weight - 357g with batteries compared to 600g and that's without the extra weight of 4xAA's (ouch!)
The downside;
Electronic zoom (wife will actually prefer this anyhow)
Loss of 0.3mp's, oh well.
36mm wide instead of 28mm (shame)
I already own it and now need to sell it (I am such an impulse buyer)I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!

I love my Lumix FZ3 won't replace it with anything other than SLR! and not yet found a situation it can't handle, they are superb cameras...very fast, versatile, great battery life!0
