  • Hi guys - nice to see everyone chatting away! I've been offline a bit since finishing work - only checking in on the things I have on my phone, so Facebook and Twitter.

Dinah and NIM this is probably a moot point after hearing about the redundancies, but re. airmiles - sometimes you just have to let things go. You're not saving money by using them, you're spending money you wouldn't otherwise have spent. And you only went to Greece a few weeks ago!! (I'm another one  to the amount you spent in a week in the UK too).

And re. the redundancies - do what you can to wow your boss but other than that there's not a lot you can do so try not to stress about it. If the worst does happen well you've always said you didn't want to do that long-term so it's just a kick up the bum to really focus on other stuff :D

Birdie, that's rubbish about your cake! What's worse though - if there were only four cakes entered they should have had a winner and runner up, and two 'last places' rather than 1st, 2nd, 3rd and one last place. Insensitive.

Wendz and Shrimpy your weddings looked beautiful!!

Lara - lovely to see you and hope the PhD stuff isn't stressing you out too much. Big snugs. How's the glamour closet coming on?

Hi to everyone else! Need to collapse into bed now! x

Hi all! Good to see you back Lara and dinah! Was starting to worry! The holiday issue is tricky, it must be hard not seeing each other very much and I love the mental image of Grace being a limpet!!

Lara how's the phd going? When is the deadline? Have you discovered something amazing? Would love to know more about it -will you be at te London meet?

I know what it must be like though with NIM being paid per hour and no guarantee of work so just taking all the hours he can now.. I was a bit like that with a uni summer job but it can be super tiring! When do the uni applications start?

Glad you're doing well at work :) if you we're to be (fingers crossed not) made redundant would you be looking at a big payoff? You've been there quite a while no?

Birdie the baby things are beautiful and I can't wait to hear if its a boy or a girl!! When do you find out? It sounds good going to be self sufficient with childcare too. How much maternity leave will you be able to take?

    NIM what's this notts opportunity?

Been manic here moneywise, savings actually going down due to overspending which is really bad, can't help it though sometimes :( need to learn to leav the credit card at home and do some kind of cash system I think because I just charge things to my card all the time! First month of new bills too I think so need to work out costs etc. also annoying as the one off annual bills are cropping up at the mo like tv licence...

How is the debt looking dinah? Is a lot of it at 0% or am I imagining this? I'm so sure you'll get rid of it, I can't wait to hear what you're going to do afterwards! At least while Grace is little there is so much free /cheap stuff to do! Is she still too poorly for baby groups? Also for vitamin D I tank you can buy a lamp from boots to help increase your intake.. A holiday would obviously be a bit more fun though!!

Ahhh lovely that everyone's coming out of the woodwork! :)

I'll have a think about what I *need* from Disney Cinny! Ma and Pa are doing a Disney shop for me in October so if they miss anything, or have 'Ah, should have bought that!' regrets, I'll let you know! :)

Big hugs for you Lara, it's perfectly natural that you're going to be sad for a long time, but I'm sure that there's happiness around the corner for you. Thinking about you loads xxxx

Sorry to hear about the job woes Dinah, just as you've started back as well! Not what you need! Things happen for a reason though so try to keep your chin up. :) I know you're taking things seriously now if you're selling cook books! Everything's available online now anyway so it makes sense to sell them. You can always go to the library if you ever feel the need to look through something different. :)

Tink, we're having the 20 week scan on 23rd September so we'll find out the sex then. We're not telling anyone other than parents (it was our compromise :)) but I'll let you lot know... if you promise to keep it to yourselves! ;)

Was hoping for a chilled day at work today, but as usual everything's come in late so I've got 3 days worth of work to do in one day! Might as well give it up as a bad job now! Who cares, I'm not back here until the 18th sept! :j

Could you go monthly with the tv licence? I did that last November, just because I was being lazy with money and it kind of "crept" up on me. But in a none creepy way, because I knew it was happening. How's the new place?

Lovely to hear from you too, Lara :) Keep thinking of you, really hoping you're okay. Lots of hugs! xxx

Sounds rubbish with your work Dinah, but like Tete said it could easily be the kick you need to finally do something you're really passionate about. I mentioned it on my thread, but I've heard so many good things about Start by Jon Acuff, going to download the sample later but it's meant to be really motivational for people starting a new route. I'd suggest it to Tete too, but she's already taken the bull by the horns on that!

Have to agree with Birdie, I thought "damn, she means business" when I read you were selling cook books :rotfl: I get all my recipes from google, I tend to search "southern food recipes with *insert food I want to use*" :o

Eee, we get to know the sex!! I won't tell a soul, but we'll obviously have to get baby something when we go to Liberty :)

He can do an application in October, but current thinking is deferring applying for a year as we're not in a strong enough financial position for him to go. We want to have some savings behind us, and this scare with my job has just solidified the notion of we need to be in a safer place moneywise. Also if I do loose my job we definitely need him to be earning.

I've been there 10 years now, but no, payoff would only be about £4800 I think, I'm not sure if it's taxed. Still only about 2.5 months wage.

Been taking her to baby groups through the summer, should be at playgroup this morning but she was up at 5.05am so I think she'll be down for a nap (she's currently laid on her rug with her blanket over her looking very dozy, but if I try to move her she throws a right wobbler)

I think all our debt is 0%, although it's possible a bit on the barclaycard isn't, I need to email them to ask. Just done the add up and current debt is £9779.50.

Today is looking miserable. I need to hang out washing, do all the ironing from the week (NIM was supposed to do this during the week but didn't get around to it) , several loads through the dishwasher (NIm didn't ... look you get the drift) finish a mystery shopping report from yesterday (NIM and I alter who does them), do the floors (again, NIM didn't get around to it), clean the bathroom, change the bedding, call t mobile and try to sort out mums phone upgrade, sort out some designs for dad and do some new designs he's sent through, scan all our dvds into music magpie, design a new leaflet for the local NCT branch, wrap 3 parcels that have sold, send a friend £30, sort out all the money in our accounts - which may mean we get locked out of Santander AGAIN, ... and then if all that gets done I need to work on some designs for a new project of my own I'm working on. And of course I have Grace today, so lots of playtime. I really feel like I'm trying here but I'm going to spend most of the day doing 'favours' for other people and then I wonder why I never make steps forward on the debt or starting my own business.

I don't mean to get !!!!!y with him, I know he's trying his hardest, but I feel like I spend all my off days cleaning to get it back to the state it was in before I went to work. I know some of you might say it doesn't need cleaning everyday but as far as I'm concerned washing does need to go on the line every day or it moulds and smells, the dishwasher does need to go on otherwise we have no glasses or cutlery, and the floors do need sweeping daily and hoovering/mopping at least every other day as we have a crawling child.
    Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81
    Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off
    Met NIM 23/06/2008

Ooooh no, I feel your pain! When I was working all the jobs I used to come home and be so annoyed if OH had just sat there and not done anything. So whenever I was at home it really felt like all I did was clean, cook and sleep. Not nice at all. Sometimes I honestly think they innocently don't notice, but equally I've wanted to physically hurt OH when he just expects me to do the housework. Does anyone else get the "Oh, I emptied the dishwasher for you" whoop-de-bloody-do. What an lovely gift.

Don't forget the SOA! I'm nerdily excited to see if there's anyway I can help :o I think it's wise putting Uni off until you have a safety net, that was one of my big worries for you two if NIM did go back to school.

Good news is, your debt is under 10k!!

Yes! Why do they think they are doing it for us? Erm no your doing it because it needed doing and this house is as much your responsibility as mine  :rotfl:

To be honest I dont usually mind. OH works long hours, usually over 60 a week and I was only working part time. Now obviously I am on maternity leave I take it as my responsibility to keep the house clean and tidy and prepare dinner. But sometimes cant help but feel that he thinks the little fairy's come and do it all :o

I get where you're coming from about the cleaning too. We have to take our wet washing out within an hour of it finishing otherwise it smells bad! :o My OH (who is, as you all know, a total neat freak!) will say things like 'I did *your* washing' for you... I'm like, 'Thank you soooo much, out of a whole load of washing you've picked out 3 pairs of knickers that are mine and the rest of the clean clothes are yours!' I recently figured out that he purposely leaves the dresses that he doesn't like me wearing at the bottom of the basket, unwashed, so I can't wear them! Cheeky sod! He also fails to notice that I do actually do chores on an evening, but because he doesn't actually see me doing anything he assumes I just leave it all for him! He'd soon notice if I stopped washing up every day (ah, how I'd love a dishwasher!) and cleaning the kitchen! :p I am lucky though as at least me does clean, we're also lucky that the flat is so dinky there's not really that much of it to clean! :o

I have actually stopped doing everything in protest before :D didn't take long for him to point out to me that the bathroom needed cleaning and he had no clean clothes. Think that actually annoyed me even more because he still didnt think to do it himself :rotfl: just pointed out that I was slacking!
