Morning all. Refusing to dwell on work. They suck (mature argument). Currently putting together my challenge for the scores, but I doubt it will make the blindest bit of difference. Been signed off for 2 weeks so I can know the answer by the time the sick note runs out, see where I go from there.

So focusing on the future, and that includes being more committed to this diary, and more focussed on our finances. Since going back to work I've felt like I'm running to stand still, never have enough time for the basics let alone any time to make extra money, so this could be a blessing in disguise to feel more on top of things.

Glad you've decided not to dwell on things. They are what they are and you just have to make the best of a sh1tty situation. :) New year, new direction? :)

It'll be good to have you back on here more keeping on top of things, I'm sure you'll come up with a genius way of making extra money! :)

Going to the bank next week to see about funding for a business idea I've been toying with for far too long. Not sure if they'll lend to us now I won't have an income though.

Glad you aren't dwelling on it.

It does sound like you were being run into the ground a bit and hopefully you will have a bit more time to focus on other things for a bit.

    Hi Dinah,

Sorry I haven't been around. I am so sorry to hear the news.

I'm glad you have decided to try and focus on the positive and I hope you get a decent redundancy so can pay off the debts or have a pot of savings set aside while you look for alternative work.

I'm sure yourself and NIM will sit down and work through all your options. How is his work going? Good I hope.

Best of luck with the bank. It seems to be one thing after the other with you both. You deserve some luck. One thing that always shines through though, is how happy you both are with Grace and with each other. That is a blessing in itself xxx

Sorry to hear about your job Dinah, I know exactly what you are going through as I am being officially being made redundant tomorrow so have been busy getting the job centre paperwork in and everything else.

Good luck Poolie! Have you thought of maybe doing something IT wise, or putting out there for some freelance work. Maybe web design? You've alway sempt quite handy with things like that! Might be nice to be your own boss :)

So happy you seem in a more positive mind over the redundancy, Dinah. Just think of the extra time with Grace, less cost off running two cars. No more running for the train! Sounds exciting with the business plan! But are you sure it isn't something you could get off the ground without a loan? Sorry to be a party pooper but I think one thing we can all learn from our time on MSE is that debt isn't really the best starting point for anything :p hope that doesn't come across as rude, just I always feel like you have so much on your plate without the added side dishes of debt :o

Aww no, ((((hugs)))) Poolie. Have you got anything else on the radar?

Dinah, I think that's an amazing attitude :) I hope the redundancy package is decent, if I remember rightly you've been working for that organisation for aaaages. It's a real bummer but hopefully brings a chance for reflection and a better work-life balance which I know you've been craving lately. I'm glad you have got some time to think it over. ((((Hugs))))

Urg I have been looking for work today too, it's a tough gig seeing as I am looking for something temporary until April / May time. Not too many jobs requiring a PhD in sociology unsurprisingly :rotfl:

Big hugs all round on the jobs front :( looking for jobs has to be one of my worst things to do but Dinah perhaps get on the phone to some recruiters and see what's out there?

Lara temping isn't that bad! It just might not be that interesting and probably won't use your PhD at all but will get you earning and out and about.. The boyf got temping work the week after he applied so when you feel ready id do it. If you're only free two months that's ok.. Some places just need people for a few busy weeks etc so you should find something! If your PhD money was a tax free stipend too it's well worth it to work until April as presumably you'll have your whole personal allowance?

Sorry to hear you had a bad Christmas Kavics :( but baby K seems to be doing so well! Can't believe she's walking

Birdie where has the time gone? Feb is def creeping up on us!! What date are you due again?

Good luck with the funding Dinah. Cinny makes a good point though, is there a way of getting the business going without adding to your debt? :)

Tink, due on the 10th Feb! What's a good word for really excited but totally sh1tting myself at the same time?! :p

Good luck getting the temp work Lara, I'm sure you'll get some work although it might not be super interesting! :)
