)
!!!!-cited?
Dinah, I think you're right to challenge the scores even if you feel its a 'done deal' as you might always wonder otherwise, but at the same time I really do believe this is a blessing in disguise for you as the job really didn't seem to be good for your health. Glad you have a bit of time to get your head around everything and hope you are ok xx
Sorry to hear about your job too Poolie, fingers crossed you find something else quickly.
Good luck with the temping Lara, I think you should be fine looking for something to last a couple of months - you obviously have developed a lots of skills doing your PhD so I wouldn't worry about that side of things - although agree it might not necessarily be anything too challenging! When I was made redundant a couple of years ago I did a three week placement through an agency for a company who were changing systems and needed admin help with the changeover, and then a six week placement at the local Uni covering while they advertised and recruited the position permanently, so it does happen, but like anything its just finding the right thing at the right time I guess.Barclaycard [STRIKE]£7,296.35[/STRIKE] £6134.99 - MBNA [STRIKE]£4,182.88[/STRIKE] £3267.08 - O/draft [STRIKE]£569.31[/STRIKE] £413.59 - Capital One [STRIKE]£1477.55[/STRIKE] £1451.44Total debt [STRIKE]£12048.54[/STRIKE] £11267.10 6% paid0 -

Hehe, Shrimpy!
I think the problem is definitely about motivation on my part. I'm having a "wah I don't wanna do temp work!" moment. Yet also "I would like some money" and "I need to get out of this !!!!ing house". Maybe I need to get more bored and fed up.
The way my student funding worked means I don't get maternity pay or allowance and am not even eligible for 6 months contribution based jobseekers. Bah humbug!:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
That's a shame about the maternity pay Lara
what does that mean your plans will be once baby is here?
Just do the temping! It might even be fun!
1month to to birdie!! How exciting!!!
I agree about do you need money for the start up initially don't you just need to do a lot of research and market research? What about the money from your dad's company and all the work you did?
Tete hope the new term started ok..!!!0 -
Was just popping into say a belated 'Happy New Year',but so sorry to hear your news Dinah. It's a rubbish thing to happen and it sounds like the way it's been done has made iteven worse.
All I hope for you is it turns out to be one of those awful things that you look back on in a few years and think was for the best as it ended upbringing with it a change for the better - if it gives you the opportunity to get your business idea going you may even be glad of it further down the line!
Look after yourself.
Sorry to hear about other people with redundancies/looking for jobs, hope it all goes well - I think 2014 may be the Year of the Redundancy- currently waiting to hear if my job has funding after June and not looking goodMortgage December 2023: TBC

Hi Dinah
Sorry to read your news about being made redundant. With regards to going to the bank to sort a loan for your business start up have you looked to see if there are any small business support centres near you that would be able to provide you with the type of information that you need. I know that there is one in my town and they look to also provide grants which could also be another way to go. Remember google is your friend - the banks are not lol.
Good luck with whatever happens and I'm sure that you and NIM will be able to make things work.DEBTS ARE BEING DEALT WITH AS BEST WE CAN:heart: Married my prince on 27/08/2011Baby Girl born 21/10/14:D:D:D:D

😁Debt Free and you can do it too0 -
Sounds exciting with the business plan! But are you sure it isn't something you could get off the ground without a loan? Sorry to be a party pooper but I think one thing we can all learn from our time on MSE is that debt isn't really the best starting point for anything
hope that doesn't come across as rude, just I always feel like you have so much on your plate without the added side dishes of debt
I agree about do you need money for the start up initially don't you just need to do a lot of research and market research? What about the money from your dad's company and all the work you did?
Sadly absolutely definately need a loan.. Manufacturing costs alone are £9800, I've cut as much out as I possibly can but that has to be done. I went to the bank on Tuesday though, he said it was one of the most promising business plans he's had put before him in years, he thinks I'm a little cautious with my financial forecast, but even on my cautious numbers I should be able to draw a £26,000 salary at the end of year one, and basically set my own salary by year 2. So now we're just deciding if we're going to go for it. We hate the idea of taking on more debt, but if taking on this now (which would be repaid in full after around 15 months) gives me a stable income for years, then I have to think it falls into Martin's 'Good Debt' category. I'm firmly of the opinion it takes money to make money, I could watch every penny for years and be safe, but still need to watch every penny, or take a risk and potentially never have to watch the pennies again. I've played it safe since I was 21, look where its got me, maybe now's the time to stop condemning myself to a life of poverty.
We worked out with just NIMs income but with me getting contribution based unemployment we'll be about £180 short a month. If I took a full time job on a few k above minimum wage (£16,000 or so) within walking distance we'd still be about £120 short a month due to FT childcare. Thats with NIMs fuel and food, but before a penny for insurance, tax, repairs, and any spends whatsoever. So basically I need to find something in my field again which will have commuting costs as I know there is nowhere locally so I'm looking at Leeds, Newcastle or possibly but less likely York, to make it worth working with the cost of childcare.Hi Dinah

Grace is teething again so just wants to cuddle and read. She's always been so good with the cat, but the last 2 days she's gotten really, really rough, grabbing huge handfuls of cat and pulling her about. The cat is very docile but I'm worried Grace is going to push her too far. I keep saying 'be gentle' and she does, but as soon as I stop saying it she goes back to grabbing.
No word on my appeal to work. I need to go find my payslips later, find out when I started work there, apparently I'm supposed to get a weeks notice for every year I've worked there, I'm curious when that date is. I'm fairly sure they've missed it. I did get a letter calling me to a HR meeting to discuss my absence though.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
