I'm not sure about this but we had an early one, didn't they come with a lifetime guarantee???I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

to be completely honest with you, not every single model is a work of art. Yes they are not supposed to break down easily but mistakes happen and more often than not it's isolated cases. You can also simply switch to another company such as Shark for example. You can have a quick look at the latest top hits on amazon in the Upright vac area.0

We had one of the older Dyson DC03 upright machines. It was on a Currys service contract. At the time it had to be sent off for repair by courier - I guess it's probably changed now! As yours, many of the parts were changed so almost a new machine bar the case itself! The mains cord/plug was changed. I did query this with Dyson as to why as it was replaced for a non-matching colour. They said that they have had problems with the original one and were replacing them as a matter of course.
There are usually two filters on a Dyson upright. One can be removed and cleaned/washed. The other is a lifetime filter which is designed not to be removed.
Parts on the casing eventually began to break and it was no longer on a service contract. Eventually sold the working Dyson on eBay for spares as it wasn't worth repairing and purchased a VAX upright instead. The Vax Air upright seems more powerful and comes with a 6 year manufacturer's warranty. Much cheaper than a Dyson. The only thing I would say is that the mains cord length on the VAX is a little short and the pointy attachment does break easily.
I would invest your money elsewhere rather than on the Dyson.
Not on a DC07. It's 'lifetime of the motor'. It's very easily removed, but cannot be washed. Remove the cyclone bin and release the catch or catches on the cover underneath with a coin or small screwdriver blade.
OP, why would you spend £79 on a service, when all you may need is a new HEPA filter for about £6.99? If you don't know where that filter is, and it was last changed under service in 2000, then it's now 13 years old and probably clogged solid!

The DC03 with twin cyclones was a Dyson 'experiment' that was not commercially successful -it didn't last long, and very few survive. The DC07 is a totally different beast, and there are still millions in service, with all parts available (though not from Dyson). No free lunch, and no free laptop 0 0

The Dyson is a great hover but it does need to be maintained regularly, particularly the filters (they can be bought much cheaper on e bay).
There are other parts that are prone to clogging up with dust and dirt and this tends to be because the Dyson has such good suction and picks up much more than many other machines.
The Dyson is very easy to completely strip down and almost every part can be replaced quite cheaply (the motors can even be replaced for about £25).
All the parts are available on e bay and to find out how to strip and maintain/repair them can been found easily using Google and most of these jobs have videos to show exactly how to do it.
There are still plenty of the original Dysons still in use !0

Like I said in previous post, the DC24 has very poor suction even from new, with 100 air watts this certainly doesn't compare well against many other bagless cleaners.0

A drag? It takes about one minute! If you are having to wash it weekly then it is undergoing some very heavy usage indeed. Monthly should be adequate for domestic use.
It only takes a minute to change it but longer to wash it thoroughly and to get it dry!
As for heavy usage, we do have lots of pets but as it's the "Animal" type one would expect it to be able to cope. Mind you, every time I drag it out to use it I think that it must have been designed by someone who'd never even seen a cat or dog, much less owned one!0

You have a spare filter though. The filter can be cool machine washed, despite what Dyson say. Then just leave it to air dry.
The 'Animal' in the name refers to the selection of onboard tools supplied. In every other respect the Animal is the same as every other DC07.No free lunch, and no free laptop 0 0

I lost this forum Did speak to them at Dyson saying how I felt about the various Dysons have performed over the years.
In fact this particular model has performed best in costing me £69 in 2009 but once again requiring a further £79 now or accept a £80 discount on a new machine.
I told the Supervisor I spoke to that I had lost confidence in their product and while I did not intend a new Dyson I wanted them to know WHY
The 1st I spent around £120 in having the cable at the handle repaired around 4 times at £25 each time. This was done by a kitchen /bathroom/shop who repairs Dyson. I cut my losses and bought a further Dyson and spent a lot of money on it until I bought the current one.
I have been given the name of the person to write to and will do in the next couple of days. I am going to take the advice by several of you on this forum, Shorten the cable and rewire my Son In Law will do this for me when he gets the time. I have always had an upright but I am using the low one which my Daughter has loaned me. My SIL tells me today that they had 2 dysons followed by a different model but that they have now purchased another Dyson?? She had said she would never buy another.
Their first model had a lot of problems and at that time kept having it repaired by this local man. She is suggesting I should ask him for a quote which I don't to proceed with a repair Good idea or bad.
I am so sick and tired this week my cold water tap in the bathroom had a problem which really only needed a washer (no water coming out of the cold tap at all) the tap just kept turning and turning I paid £25 for the repair as a call out. I have just had a new water stop fitted at a cost of £80 as the tap to switch the water off was so stiff I was unable to turn it. I am away quite a bit so frightened a flood.
Also yesterday my water was not hot economy 7 heating This morning but I have a switch in the kitchen which will top up by normal electricity cost think it gives one hour heating etc. Internet was out of order last Sunday but sorted easily with online assistance from by my provider. I am having new windows fitted 9th July and dread any problems I have had a lot of roof leaks over the years and whilst the repair from that comes out of a maintainance contract which we all pay very high annual fees for In 1998 I was paying £1800 anually and now that charge is just under £4000 annual. The latest problem goes back to Jan of 2012 and after about 3 Surveyors a particular area around a false chimney but the others areas they area waiting for it to happen again. The problem was that the insurance co were declining the claim saying that the Management were negligent in failing to carry out the repairs promptly The repairs to the roof were carried out at the mid April and now I need to have decoration. It is very hard in being an elderly woman have to rely on what I am told and what costs are without having any great knowledge of what the correct costs are.
SO SORRY FOR THIS LONG RANT WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DYSON. I am having one of those days !! I use these forums to ask many questions and no matter what my problems are I do get a lot of advice and help and am very grateful to all of you. For now I am going away for a few days so will let the dust settle . Once again many many thanks

Back to apologise for my rant. I had to do a search to find this thread again. As well as that it had 2 further threads about problems with DYSON. This confirms that I am not the only one who has problems as Dyson would have me believe. Will save myself a lot of money by buying new.
 Again great Forums!0
