Dyson faults

I am wondering if anyone has owned a Dyson I foolishly bought 3 in total over the past 14 years been advised not to buy another I did purchase yet another in 2004 in 2009 I had a complete over haul new motor new clutch new filters in fact the machine had the same casing but was new inside. This work was carried out by a Dyson engineer
This included a years guarantee .
I now have a problem in that the machine is dead. Spoken to the telephone support checked everything and was advised yesterday to leave it for 3 hrs and then switch back to see if there was power, I changed the fuse myself to make sure that it had not blown
I need now to either pay £79 for a call out or they will give me a discount of £80.
In view of my experience I would be crazy to buy another. I understand that wear and tear and understanding what life expectancy I could expect.
Previously in 30 years I have only 2 hoovers and had no problems
This question is simply to ask others experience with Dyson? I know several people including my daughter who have had problems and my Daughter advised me not to buy anothher. How foolish have been
I been?
Don't flame me as I am going to buy a new cleaner but not DYSON!
Any views would be appreciated

Have to say we have two, and I think they are great, almost every town has a dyson specialist so you can get spares readily.
WE also have a Vax cleaner, it was gifted but brand new, avoid vax.
Bought a steamer by vax as well, that got replaced and the replacement got refunded as that failed too.
They are dam popular if they are poor quality, but then again they do excellent marketing.;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I've had 2 and they've been excellent when working but frequently out of order. I bought a Henry a few months ago and I'm far happier with this.0

Yes another one here for henry - trouble free
Had 2 dysons and they never lived up to their hype for me.0 -
Nice one Susan, just thank folk that agree with you:T:T that indicates you really don't want to listen to others opinions/views/exp?
You did say "Any views would be appreciated"
Another fact;
I was tasked with equipping the none engineering staff at a unit I worked in with "cleaners", vacuums that is .
I tried Edwards and another from the same stable, the blue 1, Henry was it?, anyway can't recall his name. I also tried several of machine marts offerings.
All to no avail, they screwed the lot.
Had to revert to Nilfisk for real time longevity.
So if you want a basic tub like a henry, which looks very industrial, buy the same thing from machine mart for less.
And yet another fact;
30 years back I was embarking on my 1st loft conversion and had a huge amount of carp, sand, dust and wood dust etc to remove from the loft.
Didn't want to ruin a perfectly good household vac so bought a "tub" from machine mart.
Today it's still in use, done several similar jobs and clears any chippings/sawdust etc with ease.
But, and this is where it goes pear shaped for the consumer, all these henry/fred/edward type use dust bags, and we therefore swap efficiency for convenience:A:AI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Try Miele. Its got the cleaning efficiency and quality of Dyson with bullet proof reliability.
I have both - a 12 year old Miele and a 4 year old Dyson, both regularly used and the Dyson has had more things go wrong with it than the Miele thats 3 times older. Wouldn't buy another.
And yes I have a Henry too - very reliable but not a patch on either the Miele or the Dyson for cleaning quality. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I bought a Dyson when i first see them at the Ideal Home Exhibition years and years ago.It lasted 13 months complete rubbish.
I then bought a Sebo and still use it and it works the same today as it it did when i first bought it.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you all I did a response lost and then my lost my internet connection.
Now back in action following some telephone instructions
Some people have had a good experience with Dyson but I am grateful for thos who had problems like myself
I am elderly and could not do any DIY so that is out
My Son in Law has brought an extra one they have not DYSON but she has had in the past problems and unlike me she bought another brand. Dyson on the telephone made me feel that I should be grateful that the cleaner had lasted so long!!
Once again and apologise for the delay

I bought my 1st Dyson 6 years ago and its still going strong, and working just as well as ever.0

I have reread your post and you give the opinion that I only want to thank people who agree with me.
Far from it I most of all wanted to know how Dyson had performed for others. I very much appreciate the views of everyone and am not out to slag anyone.
I will buy another cleaner but having had 3 Dyson would not buy another. Right now I have no idea what I will buy need to have a look and see what is out there.
I am very sorry if you feel I have offended you or anyone else.
