Dyson faults

Model DC07 Forgot to give that in my post

Faffing around with filters and overheating motors for a vac thats advertised as the latest greatest technology seems strange to me.
My Henry goes to work with me picking up all types of industrial garbage and never had an issue.0 -
How often do you clean the pre-and post motor filters? 9 out of 10 times with Dysons, this is what kills the motors. If regularly cleaned they'll last for many years..
But cleaning the filters can be such a drag - I used to have to wash mine once a week and keep a spare for whn it as in the wash.0 -
A drag? It takes about one minute! If you are having to wash it weekly then it is undergoing some very heavy usage indeed. Monthly should be adequate for domestic use.
OP, the DC07 has two filters. Have you replaced the post-motor filter (this is the one beneath the cyclone bin)? It's less likely to clog up, but does need to be checked and replaced periodically, especially if it's a HEPA version. If blocked the hot air cannot exit the motor and it will overheat.
If it's switching on OK at start up and the cutting out after running for some time, then it's almost certain the thermal cut out operating due to overheating.
The DC07 is built like a tank (it's one of the last UK models made) and with proper maintenance will go on forever. Dyson may consider it obsolete, but all the spares are still available from independent suppliers. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for that I am just going to look and find this 2nd filter.
Asked my Daughter what I should do buy a new one 2nd Option just 5 mins walk away. She says that they will tell me what the problem and then give me a price for the work carried out.
I used this place several times when I had my first Dyson there was a fault in that where the flex goes into the machine at the top The wire kept breaking and I don't remember how many times I had it repaired ,. The new Dysons like mine has a concertina like and then the flex goes in This is fixed and very strong. That Dyson I bought in 1998 Nov Just a few weeks after I moved to Harrogate.
Over time I didn't want to keep paying every 3-6 months to have it fixed.
I think that whatever he would charge would be more than the price Dyson £79 fix and 12 month guarantee, Found the receipt and the maintainence was carried out Nov 2000 The motor
clutch
brush bar
internal hose assay
hepa filter assy
DC07 hepa filter seal
In short the innards of the machine was like new I thought that the service charge of £69 was fantastic value. I do think he replaced some parts that were not essential I had a 12 month Guarantee
I am now thinking that a service at £79 might be not a bad deal. my head is all over the place. If I decide to buy a new machine then it will not be a Dyson I will follow the instuctions you have given me and see what happens
Thanks again

i'm not surprised your head is all over the place , you've probably spent £200 on something that is unreliable and now you're going to have to fork out another £70 to get it fixed . at that price i'd want a rolls royce of vacuums.
for work i have a henry , the one i have now is 5 years old , the one before that was over 10 years of picking up building dust and the like
keep a new bag in there and it will pick up as well as a dyson , a new set of decent bags will cost around £6 for 10 , these will last at least 2 years + . the £70 you're going to give to dyson will get you a henry for an extra £200 -
I hate dysons. Mine was forever snapping it's band.
I like VAX normally, but my last one was an Argos own make pet cyclinder and its fabulous!1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -
I've had mine for ten or eleven years, had to have it repaired once and it is great. I am not very good at remembering to wash the filter, maybe twice a year and I have a dog so lots of dog hairs in it. I resisted getting one as I hate things that are hyped but it is the best vacuum I have ever had.
We have a Henry at work and I think it is useless.Sell £1500

We had one of the older Dyson DC03 upright machines. It was on a Currys service contract. At the time it had to be sent off for repair by courier - I guess it's probably changed now! As yours, many of the parts were changed so almost a new machine bar the case itself! The mains cord/plug was changed. I did query this with Dyson as to why as it was replaced for a non-matching colour. They said that they have had problems with the original one and were replacing them as a matter of course.
There are usually two filters on a Dyson upright. One can be removed and cleaned/washed. The other is a lifetime filter which is designed not to be removed.
Parts on the casing eventually began to break and it was no longer on a service contract. Eventually sold the working Dyson on eBay for spares as it wasn't worth repairing and purchased a VAX upright instead. The Vax Air upright seems more powerful and comes with a 6 year manufacturer's warranty. Much cheaper than a Dyson. The only thing I would say is that the mains cord length on the VAX is a little short and the pointy attachment does break easily.
I would invest your money elsewhere rather than on the Dyson. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

Good morning! Have just read the latest comments and the advice given. I will try to follow it as well as possible. I have used Dyson task master where the instruct you how to do this and that I will have a go also with this. Not sure where the 2nd filter but will work it out. Thanks again So many responses and whether they are good experiences or poor like mine i am happy to read anything.
Over the years I have spent so much on repairs as would have bought me a brand new one. Have had 3 Dyson's in 14 years spent a lot of money on repairs until I found that Dyson had this £69 now £79
Until that Dyson repair I had taken the first 2 to a local shop who carried out the repairs Not what expected !from a Company such as Dyson They must spend Millions on advertising etc but their product in my eyes does not live up its reputation.
Thanks again
