Did I swear at you? having a bad day John?

The point being did they know how to check them, did some other tyre place or garage tell them? or did they just think they looked worn out because the sips were worn down?

And if you go to Kwikfit even with 3mm across the 3/4 quarter centre still left and you have worn the sips off the corners by hard cornering they will try to tell you its worn and you need new ones. You don't.

You're right, possibly a tad harsh but these threads always turn in to everyone at Kwik Fit is a thief, and always use an independant as they are never untrustworthy. I've never had a problem using Kwik Fit.

You are lucky then, i used to go to a quick fit for MOT, then they tried to sell me tracking, when they went to do it said my track rod ends were knackared and that woulld be £150.

Said i would think about it, got 2 track rod ends went to my mechanic and he said nothing wrong with them.

Not been back to that branch since.

Same branch quoated me £700 for tyres, said i could get them for £400 odd else where, "thats no problem we will match that" why rip me off in the first place?

£73 for focus tyres? You're havin' a giraffe. Mine cost me £50 each all in. They are good for 30,000 miles. Been using the same tyre place for ten years. ( only £40 back in 2003) On my third focus but still using the same independent tyre place-

They are round and black and last for 30000 miles, not had a problem stopping in over 250000 miles. I don't care what they are called. They work an only cost £50.

You might not care but your post is useless to the rest of us looking for good tyres if you don't tell us the make and model.

You may think all tyres that are round and black and the same size are equivalent, but they are not. Have a look at the following very basic but informative test for example:

    http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2013-54-Tyre-Braking-Test.htm

The new European tyre label provides consumers with limited information on performance, including fuel economy (rolling resistance) ratings. Comparing tyre label info will similarly show you that all tyres are not equal.

Buying the cheapest tyres you can is not in my opinion wise, and laughing at the OP for not having done so is discourteous, unhelpful and ill-informed.

Don't forget, you only have kwik fits word that they are cheapest. Its more likely there were cheaper tyres available, but with a smaller mark up...

More common tyres sizes will be cheaper - supply and demand
