Always go with a male to a garage.

    No.

If you're going to patronise women about their knowledge of cars, then plenty of men are the same.

The main thing with Kwikfit is to have an idea of what other places would charge, and make it clear to Kwikfit that you know.

Their overall principle seems to be that they'll match any rival price, but you might need to know and ask.

That isn't really technical knowledge, but negotiating.

Hi, I have just had an MOT done on my car at my local Kwik Fit garage...

Contrary to what some on here say, I've found some branches of kwikfit to provide honest, decent service. I've also seen some shocking service at others. (My lease car had to go there for tyres as the lease company had some sort of deal with them).

As others have said, it sounds like you got a pretty decent deal.

Regardless of if the new tyres were a good price or not, I would be very wary of if you even needed them with Kwikfit, did you just take their word for it?

My experience of them is they try to bend the 'rules' to suit themselves, often pointing out to the customer some of the minor sips (very small grooves) on the shoulder have worn down.... but its the big grooves that matter and pretty much most tyres have a wear indicator built in making checking a doddle until its gets right down to the line.

They are well practiced at how they say you should change them to avoid direct deception but play on peoples concern to be safe.

I love how people ask if they've paid too much while giving zero detail at all.

    Hello, I bought a car for £1000, have I paid too much?`

You got the mot quite cheap at £35.

Not really, that's about the going rate for MOT tests at garages and testing stations.

Silly indeed. The OP clearly states they knew they needed new tyres. So If I know I need new tyres and go to a tyre shop and they say I need new tyres it's hardly a f******* surprise is it.

Did I swear at you? having a bad day John?

The point being did they know how to check them, did some other tyre place or garage tell them? or did they just think they looked worn out because the sips were worn down?

And if you go to Kwikfit even with 3mm across the 3/4 quarter centre still left and you have worn the sips off the corners by hard cornering they will try to tell you its worn and you need new ones. You don't.

Sounds like you got as good a deal as anyone here would have got, bar a little haggling.

And don't be persuaded to 'take a man' next time. You did OK.

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
