Bonus points on insurance fault. If after swerving you avoided hitting the truck but instead caused an accident in the outside lane. For insurance purposes that would be 100% your fault and you'd be the one losing your NCB and paying inflated premiums for the next five years, assuming you're still capable of driving afterwards.

It would also be you having nightmares for a very long time over the (hypothetical) family that lost a father and daughter in that (hypothetical) accident.

In those nightmares you might well start wondering how you could have avoided "the other person's fault" earlier!

Got to say, I held my tongue (well, fingers) when I first saw this thread but have to add a "+3", or is it 4 now?

Especially if it was that junction that Lum so helpfully identified, it's a LONG chevron section with a LONG ramp down after the barrier. Assuming there wasn't a tailback on the slip, the most likely reason for a vehicle in that lane braking to a stop (or even slowing down much) is that they're looking to re-join the main carriageway. So, the warning signs were there well before he "suddenly pulled out" in front, needing emergency action.

That isn't in any way intended to excuse the lorry driver's actions, but it is something that the OP could take away and learn from rather than sniping at anyone who points it out. .........

    Think it's 5 now.

Having said that, it does sound like a spectacularly crap bit of driving by the lorry given the chevrons are both really long and become hard shoulder at the actual junction which would have given him plenty of time & space to get up to speed before rejoining
;61585209]Are you superhuman then and immune to dying if you shunt a stationary lorry at 70mph and then proceed to get shunted by 4/5 other cars?

Motorway pile-ups happen. Lots of people get killed every year in them. Not helped by idiots like this, is it?
make your mind up, was it stationary or was it moving?

Even if you got the reg, there's no guarantee the company would do anything. My brother got shunted by an Eddie Stobart lorry a couple of years ago. I can't remember exactly what. I think he was in the left hand lane and the lorry driver decided he wanted to be in the left hand lane too. There's no way my brother would've been at fault because he's worse than the most preachy posters I've seen on here. He's a Perfect Driver.

Anyway. he had the lorry's registration and the exact location (under the bridge near J26 of the M1) My dad rang Eddie Stobart within 30 mins only to be told they had no record of the reg plate and for some reason they wouldn't/couldn't track who was at J26 half an hour ago.

So Eddie Stobart got away with smushing my brother's car up. He hammered most of the crumpled bits out but jesus christ, you know, he got squished by a lorry

I think the underlying lesson this thread demonstrates is......bring back goods trains?
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Nolans have a bad reputation. They pay their drivers very poorly and there is a high percentage of East European drivers who are willing to work for the low pay. I'm not getting into driving ability of E European drivers, but depending on the language skills, there are obvious drawbacks for some.

    http://www.independent.ie/regionals/newrossstandard/news/haulage-company-fined-90000-for-missing-charts-27480803.html

    And more recently

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/transport-firm-fined-1m-for-horror-crash-which-killed-women-223770.html

Fining someone a million euros says a lot.

Being a haulage contractor myself, I will inevitably be biased towards the transport industry, but I think it's fair to say that most LGV drivers are pretty good. No-one is ever perfect and it's down to physics that if you do have an accident with a 44 ton vehicle as opposed to a 1 ton car, the former will be far worse. In the OPs case, the driver from what has been said has clearly been at fault. However, given Nolans reputation, I doubt they'll be that fussed.

My thoughts too, what a drama queen, incidents like this occur everyday and not only on the motorway, part and parcel of driving I think. You just have to be on the ball.

Usually with women drivers too love. ;-)
;discussion/4628067]Can't believe the stupidity of me.

Filter lane which filters off left on M4. Lorry driver had obviously not been paying attention, stayed in the left and then realised it was going down the sliproad.

So, he's stopped dead in the slip road, turned almost 90 sideways, crossed the zigzags and then attempted to get back onto the main carriageway (like a give way sign).

Of course, I saw him in plenty of time wondered what he was doing but then he pulls out 100 yards in front of me. Know I know stopping distance at 70mph is about that.... Crapped myself, so rather than brake safely, I dangerously swerved into outside lane (luckily nothing coming) but instead of carrying on at a safe speed I just about stopped in the fast lane and then watched as cars behind me almost ploughed into the back of me.

I nearly killed a number of people today through my ludicrous reaction time and losing control of my bowel movements.

Driver of lorry should lose his job for this. Nolan Transport was the company. I've emailed them to thank them for making me realise how bad my driving is.

One thing I can not stand is the way I panic and do dangerous and stupid things when driving. Make a mistake fair enough but to do something and endanger someone elses life because I,m lazy is not on.
You must have a massive ignore list. Anyone who dares to say you are wrong in your actions are ignored.

you are one of the type of people that have never been in an accident, but have caused many, no doubt.
