Anyone know at which date point are electric storage heaters are going to be defined as as a “qualifying boiler” under the affordable warmth scheme, such that the repair or replacement of a broken or not functioning electric storage heater is subject to the same scoring mechanism as the repair or replacement of current “qualifying boiler” ?

storage heaters will never be a 'qualifying boiler' as that category is for boilers storage heaters have their own category for HHCRO, its called 'storage heaters' see here for scoring mechanism for all measures for HHCRO .

If you are talking about a broken 'fan assisted storage heaters' there are no plans and at this stage you will not get help from HHCRO.

If they are broken the only way you will get support is to remove them and have another assessment thus you have no central heating and will get support for the most appropriate heating for your circumstances.

  • Im trying to change from my current supplier to e on. But online when I try and register e on say I have an account with them already. I don't. Any ideas other than phoning (not sure the number they give is a free phone number).

  • I am one of the many people paying more by being on Economy 7. Currently only use about 15% electricity at night. So I am trying to get my meter changed to a non-Economy 7 one. Does anyone know of a company that doesn't charge to change your meter.

(As an aside why do you even need a new meter when the total usage is the sum of the day and night rates - couldn't companies just use that figure? Anyone know the reason?)

Some companies will totalise, but it is better to change the meter. Even if you pay to have your meter changed (which you should by the way as the other option is making the rest of us pay for it), you will make your money back in savings in not very much time at all.

The meter should be changed because if you sold your house in the future, the people that moved in would be automatically (wrongly) put on to E7 too. The database should reflect the usage type to save on these kind of mistakes.

Npower will both total your meters (or allow you to enter the separate readings which they will total) and not charge you to change your meter. I had a bit of difficulty changing from the Economy 7 plan to the normal plan but as they have ended up paying me a fair amount of compensation for the difficulties I have had with them I am satisfied with the outcome.
  • I use gas for heating and hot water. My supplier, British Gas, also for electricity, seems unwilling to suggest Economy 7. Yet, the U.K. is heading for energy crises, particularly for electricity. I use electricity for clothes washing, a tumble drier, and a dishwasher. Surely it is crazy to offer me no inducement to use these at night, rather than in peak periods and cold spells in, for example, January.
I shall have smart meters installed soon, and hope that some changes will be made in due course, to offer such inducement.

That'll help - I don't think. All the smart meters will do is enable the electricity company to shut you off when demand exceeds supply.

If your energy supplier won't offer E7, switch.
