    Thanks.
2005CLAIRE: we have agreed a month's trial and then if we're both happy, we will then sign official contracts. I am very happy with this as it gives us both time to suss each other out. Yes I will ask her about things before we get too friendly, but after last time, I will try to be a bit more assertive and say something if there's something I'm not happy about, before it gets out of hand.

PS forgot to mention - I've also gone online and read all the ofsted reports of the prospective CMs and my old one. The one I have just chosen has by far the best report. That puts my mind at ease a lot and something I would recommend other people do.

Just for future reference.... 'The Children Act' tells us that it is the responsiblity of all adults to protect children. This means if we see actions that may lead to emotional, physical or sexual harm to a child we are expected to intervene. Your previous CM should have known all about the Children Act if she had current training. Although she would not have liked you for it you could have told her that you have a responsilbity under the Children Act to report her sub standard care.

Ask your husband how he would feel if your child were ever injured/killed by bad practice from a CM/nursery/neighbour and someone else turned round and told him this had happened before but they did not tell him ...

You absolutely did the right thing and everyone should have the courage to do the same instead of just taking their child and walking away!!

Children have died because of negligent adults whether they are CM's, social workers, parents etc!

Maybe I am having a bit of a rant but I was a nanny for 20 years and got really angry at other nannies and au pairs who acted differently as soon as the parents left the house - ie on the phone, child left in bed for ages, or the worst - when an au pair who i socialised regularly with told us one night she often left the two children under two at home while she popped to store. After a lot of soul seaching myself and another au pair told her employer cos we could not bear guilt if something happened!

    YOU DID THE RIGHT THING!!

I'm very glad to hear that AnnieH- it makes it so much easier to complain about the last one when you have one less (major) thing to worry about now.

Good luck with your new CM-it's the biggest weight off your mind when your mind is at ease about your child/ren.

Now can someone help me come to terms with losing our childminder when ds starts school in August!!!! She's helped me hold onto whatever shred of sanity I still possess over the last 4 years!!!
