So, if you are front loading the p&p and getting those same expenses set against taxes then you are gaining twice.
Getting expenses paid for doesn't gain you anything - it simply covers your costs. How is that gaining?
By that logic, what you're saying is that if i have a £5 expense incurred on a transaction, I should take that as a loss rather than recoup it if possible?0 -
No, but you should recoup it in your profit from selling not as an expense.0

That directly contradicts the Ebay link I gave earlier. So, no.
It contradicts it so it must be wrong? Maybe the link you gave is wrong instead.
What I gave was also an ebay link, a link directly to the ebay policy on charges and surcharges relating to P&P, so apart from the fact that it shoots your argument out of the water, why is the link that you provided of any more importance or relevance than the one I gave?
Just in case you didn't read it, I will show again where it is perfectly clear with no ambiguity whatsoever.Postage and packing -
Sellers may add a reasonable postage and packing fee to the
final price of their item. A postage and packing fee can cover the seller's reasonable costs for mailing, packaging and handling the item. Postage and packing fees cannot be listed as a percentage of the final sale price0 -
From your link: My red
Postage and related charges
Be sure to specify P&P charges and related service charges in your listings. It's against our rules to provide unclear or misleading delivery information or to charge unreasonable fees for postage and related services.
What you can charge
Actual postage cost: This is the final P&P charged. Consider what others in the market charge for delivery of the item being sold to ensure you remain competitive. Also be consistent with eBay policies for the P&P charges for the category you are listing in.
Packaging cost: This can include the cost of packaging materials.shaun_from_Africa wrote: »It contradicts it so it must be wrong? Maybe the link you gave is wrong instead.

As is mine, repeated above.0 -
I haven't read the entire thread, so this may already have been pointed out, but......
Whenever I buy on ebay (which is a lot!) I always take the cost of the item as being the amount + p&p. May sound obvious, but my wife still insists on buying a bargain because its only £3.99 (or whatever), and I still have to point out that there is £1.99 p&p so the 'bargain' is actually £5.98. We have been buying on ebay for years, but she still does it! lol

Which doesn't attempt to answer the question I asked as to why you think one link is more important than the other one?
I accept that the link I gave may be wrong.
Are you also willing to state that the one you gave might also wrong, in which case sellers can charge a reasonable handling fee as part of the P&P charges?0 -

I said the links were contradictory, so mine wasn't wrong.
I agree they can't both be correct, but they are both from Ebay, so we are no further forward. Yes, mine could be wrong, but the fact remains that the designation is;postage and packing, not postage, packing, & handling0 -

All I am interested in is what the item actually has cost me.
The postage is irrelevant as it is the overall cost that counts.
It may be irrelevant to you but it isn't to me. As a seller I am now scrupulous about postage charges and auto refund any overcharge. I expect other sellers to do the same when I am a buyer.0 -
