First time I got married in church as I am a Christian (somewhat lapsed at the time) but hubby wasn't. All done very MSE styley (cost about £1200 in 1994). Married an alcoholic, !!! wife beater and had 2 beautuful sons. Divorced 3 years later.

Second (and last) time married a Christian man but our pastor wouldn't marry us in church as I divorced the 1st husband and not the other way round and we were living together.
(fair enough, his views and perogative, not everyones). We married at a beautiful abbey then had a blessing outside under a tree by one of our friends from the same church who is a deacon.

Kept the cost down by doing my own invites, table centres and decorations, calling in favours from a band, venue decorator and friends. I won my wedding dress from a magazine so that saved me £2k!
Very happy 7 years later - had 2 beautiful girls so our family is complete.

(1st husband died nearly 4 years ago so no contact obviously!)

I don't regret not getting married in church the 2nd time - it was gorgeous and just as meaningful for us.

  • We got married in a Limestone Cavern - everyone had to enter by barge - the final one carrying me, my Dad AND Mum (I wanted them both to be with me on my last trip as a single woman) and my Bridesmaid (my niece). DH 'pulled' me just seven months earlier with a line about a slow barge trip!

Will be our first anniversary in a few weeks time and, with a little bit of luck, we will be continuing our barge theme.

Absolutely the best day of my life. :D

We got married in a country hotel or glorified pub - call it what you will! Neither of us wanted to get married in a church as DH has an almost vampire-like reaction to them and although I have a "faith" I wouldn't feel comfortable getting married in a church I don't attend. It was the most amazing day and we got to see a lot of our guests the next day at breakfast as they were able to stay over and we didn't have to move the whole day as everything was in one place - perfect!
:jToday is the first day of the rest of your life; live it as if it were your last.

Registry office - no fuss no mess. The 2 of us set off in the old Citroen and met close family and a few friends there. Sister-in-law set up the video camera, and husband later made a lovely DVD where he put pics of us from baby to adult next to each other (as if we'd known each other all of our lives) in the background played I Was Born To Love You by Queen. Mate who loves photography took all the photo's as a wedding present. Although they took a good photo unfortunately they hadn't a clue about organizing the guests - hence it looked as if I was marrying my stepson as the photographer didn't apear to notice that he stood in front of my husband on a few photo's  We went straight from the reg to the cemetary to place the flowers on our loved one's graves. Every time I mentioned wedding bouquet people would say starts from £50  So I went to the local market and said that I wanted something for £20 - she did me proud. Went for a meal alone, then met up with family and friends in the evening for drinks. My dress was £35 from principles in the sale and I still wear it occasionally when on holiday. My evening dress cost me another £35 and I still have that too :D
