We got married in a registry office almost 25 years ago.

We chose a registry office because we both believe religion is complete rubbish. :)

I got married in my local 12th Century Church! But I'm not a church goer and I did feel a bit of a hypocrit! But who was I to deny my Dad walking his only daugher down the aisle!

We married in a Scottish Castle 5 years ago this August! DH's family are religious but I'm not so we compromised by having a Scottish Minister marry us in a non-church setting.

No Scotch blood in us by the way!

Im catholic with no religous belief whatsoever...DH is CofE, also aethist! We chose registry office with a small meal for our parents and OH's sister afterwards.

MIL and My mother got involved and before we knew it they had a church hall booked, disco, full catering etc etc. I spent most of the night with DH talking to people who neither of us actually knew lol

MIL sulked because DH wore a collarless suit (and he looked very handsom too!). Our "week off at home" honeymoon was marred by the worst snowstorm ever leading to powercuts for 3 days and the telephone lines dying with it. We finally got a "proper" honeymoon 6 months later at easter in North Wales, whereby the snow returned with a vengence and we were forced to come home because DS was blue it was that cold in the caravan!

Been married 11 years this year, we can look back and laugh haha

Married in a registry office only four weeks after meeting

Still together after 12 years and expecting our fourth, and I absolutely love him to bits!!!

Top from principles and skirt from sale in Miss Selfridge!
They took my signature away!!!!
  • I felt that some relatives would moan and groan under their breath if we married in a church... as we don't go on a weekly basis.

So instead that moaned anyway that they couldn't all be invited to the registry office, due to numbers.

I would have liked to... if the local churchs didn't all look like square buildings with a cross on top, not exactly picture perfect..

Have considered doing a blessing or something in a beautiful looking church just the two of us for our 10th wedding anniversary next year maybe...!

dont know if you can vote twice.

why did you choose registry office for the 2nd time?

Lots of bad stuff happened to me in between the two marriages and I lost what was left of my faith - so church would not have been appropriate. Not only that, just for info, the catholic church would not have married me as I was a divorcee and my hubby is an atheist

That's the problem with doing it at a registry office, the aisle is usually rather narrow with regards to you being given away or having bridesmaids and it only takes 3 or 4 steps to complete the walk.

So your guest aren't able to gaze at you in your beautiful dress/gown or outfit... which family like the chance to do so.. but if you don't like the lime light then this option can be ideal

We went for the registry office option as neither of us are religious, but I'll admit we're quite lucky in that Guildford has a lovely registry office, much nicer than some venues I've seen. I still got a beautiful dress without a meringue in sight! And we finally got a honeymoon 4 years later.

5 years this summer and very very happy, so it worked for us.

Married in the church my parents went to first time as my parents expected it. I didn't like it as it's a modern ugly building and I didn't like the man who married us either (who showed his true colours later by trying to drive a wedge between me and my parents  ) Had the traditional bg white wedding but didn't enjoy it. It was too formal and most of the guests were relatives I barely knew and friends of my parents.

Got married again last year and wabted something less formal and with just close family and friends there. We were looking at stately homes, but they were all very expensive, so I made an off hand comment about running off to Gretna Green.

Looked into it out of curiosity, and ended up getting married in the original blacksmiths forge where hundreds of runaway couples have married over the years, so it was very romantic.

There was 19 of us altogether and we stayed in a nearby hotel for the whole weekend. It was great fun and not at all stressful. I'd recommend it!
Here I go again on my own....
