I went to the Bahamas to get married as I didn't want to invite the mother-in-law! Turns out I shouldn't have invited the groom either.....

    :rotfl:

We got married in a hotel overlooking the sea :)

neither of us are religious, and i never fancied a registry office TBH :o most round here are ugly buildings ! :(

and i didnt want the hassle of having the ceremony in one venue then moving onto another

we had the whole day / night in the same place :)

which is about 37 miles from us ! but sort of half way between our hometown where most of our family / friends still live and where we live now ! IYSWIM lol

I dont think getting married in a place other than a church make it any less "special ",you can have readings, music, and still have an aisle ;) etc

I hate it when people who arent religious get married in a church, just because they want the "big special white wedding" lots of couples back home do this as there is one big popular church they all like to get married in  ditto for christenings

as a non religious person i dislike church weddings, they are far too long, and i feel all hypocritical attending one :o

    Church where my dad's buried.

Put a buttonhole on his grave before I walked down the aisle, and also so I could show him how stunning I looked ;)

Was lovely to get married in such a familiar place, having been there lots over the years visiting the grave and knowing a real peace in the place.

We had a beautiful listed barn, aisle, bridesmaids, readings, the lot (28th April this year)! And not a Vicar/crucifix/altar in sight.

didnt you know it is more of a crime to divorce in the eyes of the church than stay in a loveless marriage and make eachothers lives hell. Bloody well ridiculous and they wonder why their congregations are on the decrease.

I've tried several churches in my town and no one will take us because he's divorced. If he was a reformed drug addict or murderer they would welcome him with open arms but being divorced seems to be the worst crime you can ever commit.

  • Will be getting married in a Manor House. As both my partner and i are not religous so we feel it would be hypocritical to get married in a church.

We choose for the manor house over the registry office as we can have the party there to, much less hassle than moving the guests around!

Plus we can go back an dvisit the grounds and the house, unlike a registry office : )

    hi,

got married in a registry office in our old home town as we didnt want to be married in the town we lived in and it was heaps cheaper & sooner. I got my Great Aunt to make my dress which I designed in a semi medieval type design with oatmeal silk to give it that poor mans cloth effect. retaking our vows for our 10th anniversary which gives me enough time to loose weight & wear the dress of my dreams which is white velvet gothic dress.

I got married, last May, in a wedding gazebo on the beach in St Lucia :D
Just 6 of us went - myself & hubby, my parents, my little sister (bridesmaid) and hubby's big brother (best man)

Neither of us are religious, we wanted to get away from OH HUGE family and neither of us liked the idea of formal sit down meals, speaches etc...

    It was fantastic.

I got married in a castle! It worked out quite cheaply as we didn't hold our catering there. I wanted something a little different, oh and I was able to get a discount because of where I worked:confused:

We got married in 1971 in a registry office as neither of us had any religious belief at the time and in 1971 you didn't have the choice of hotels/manor houses.

After we had both come to faith, we retook our vows in 1984 with best man, bride's father and witnesses in a church.

I am not saying that we thought we were not legally married before....this was just something we wanted to do.
