I'm off to see Star Trek tomorrow in 3D Imax Odeon Cardiff and I've just paid £21.50 for my ticket - thats ONE ticket - however, this is for the Gallery which is adults only, nice comfy seats with tables, and includes unlimited popcorn, soft drinks & nachos. I wouldn't normally even consider paying those prices but this is a special treat as I'm going with my son who is coming from Swindon for a mother and son day. It'll be a verrrry long time before I pay that much to go again lol I did like that in the gallery I can choose my seat in advance and we're right in the middle so hopefully will get the whole IMAX experience as I've never been to an IMAX before.

I've been to the IMAX at Nottingham three times since it opened and every time I'm blown away by how darn brilliant it is :D

    It's LOUD and it's BIG :T
'til the end of the line

    Have a great time!

  • I have discovered an independent cinema not too far from me. Started going there now - eight pounds a ticket across the board for all films, cosy, never too busy and the food and drink is really, really cheap. Best of all - they have a bar so you can get a gin and tonic (or whatever takes your fancy) and take it into the film :)

Any reason? It would be interesting to see what the positives of allocated seating are?

I prefer trying to get the seats at the top of the stairs, as they have quite good leg-room compared to the other seats. Plus if your running late you don't have to do the "walk" asking people to stand up to get to your seat.

Although I haven't been since Odeon took over the Reel cinema and pretty much doubled the prices for Mondays and Wednesdays.

this is why I hope they don't close down our local independent - £2.50 a ticket and food you don't need to take out a mortgage to buy.

In Vue, Ellesmere Port, you can choose your seats.

It's not that easy to know which will be the ideal position for s teen, sound etc, unless you are capable of learning the layout of all 26 screens, though.

We usually go on Wednesday afternoons, courtesy of Orange and senior prices.

Protest with your wallet and don't go back.

On another note, we have a locally run cinema. The seats are a little uncomfortable, but it's only £3.50 on Sundays and Mondays, and they don't mind you bringing your own sweets/drinks in etc. Brought a bottle of red in last time :p

Certainly beats £15+ per person (Ticket, drink and snack) at a regular cinema.

Our big screen cinema is 3.75 seats are fab the other massive chain cinema is 4.90. So a saving of 25p for horrible seats.

We much prefer having allocated seats - we used to pay for VIP just so we could choose our seats, but now we get to save money :j

We like to go on 'date nights', where we buy our cinema tickets before going for a meal, then watch the film afterwards. By booking our seats in advance, we don't have to worry about arriving early (especially if it's busy) to get good seats - we can enjoy our meal and then stroll in just before the film starts, knowing that our seats will be waiting!

The arts cinema I visit only uses allocated seating for the National Theatre Live or RSC Live showings. This allows for rows of seats being evenly used and they all have been full.

On the other shows, they are not. I prefer to use the arts cinema for viewing movies generally as never get the teens and young adults that like to have their hand on their mobile all the time - the white squares in the distance are very annoying, If you cannot be away from your mobile for 2 hours - you have issues. Plus they don't have popcorn for sale and the smell makes me sick!

On the few times I have visited Vue, Odeon, the screenings I have been to have been less than 40 in the room! Do they expect and put the 40 of us in 2-3 rows? They should only use allocated seating on Friday and Sat evenings for the movie's first two weekends of opening.
