Where to hide a secret camera

Just my opinion, but I would be really cautious about setting up a camera in full view or otherwise. I just feel it demonstrates a lack of trust with your family. I would really try to look for other solutions.
Is there anything else you could have for breakfast?
Could you put the bread in the freezer and only defrost in the microwave in the morning?
Could you take some bread into work and keep it there?
If your concern is that your daughter is sleep eating, could you have a conversation with her in a non-accusatory way? Something along the lines of 'I've noticed food is going missing from the kitchen at night. Do you think it's possible you could be eating in your sleep?' She may have some awareness or maybe not, but it starts to explore that possibility without accusing her.
Whoever is eating the food, there has to be a reason for it...they are sleep eating, they are hungry, they are bored, they are binge eating...I think the most important is to understand why they are doing this and help them.

Just our of interest, my cousin used to sleep walk - and eat! It was at a time when she was having issues in a relationship. She would sleep walk to the kitchen and eat.0

it does concern me a little if it is my daughter sleep eating, as i said she has pretty much always slept walked, so we're used to that, but if it has now turned into eating too i would like to know if there is a reason.
She has plenty to eat during the day and we don't restrict her bar trying to get her to be sensible with what shes eating (not too much sweet stuff etc).0 -
I've always found the ladies changing room at the local gym a good place for hiding a camera. HTH0

I'm reminded of the story of a man in Japan. He lived alone and over a period of several months began to notice that food was disappearing from his fridge, that items had been moved and other peculiar things were occurring.
Worrying that he was losing his marbles, he set up some surveillance cameras. When he sat down to view the recorded footage he was horrified to see a female figure emerge from a wardrobe and move around the house. I believe it was around the time that "Ringu" and other assorted tales involving spooky little girls were popular in Japan.
However, he need not fear the wrath of Sadako as it turns out that about a year prior some homeless girl had managed to move into his house and had been living there ever since, emerging when he left to take showers, eat and even wash some clothes.
So, if you do setup a security camera and want to avoid a potential fright, make sure the potential girl hiding in the attic is aware you're doing it too0 -
I really don't think that setting up a secret hidden camera "suggests a lack of trust in the family". Seriously, food is going missing, it is not going missing itself!! I think action is required.
Whether someone is sleep walking or comfort eating, it still needs to be dealt with I think. Setting up a camera is to find who it is. It even can be the OP herself. But it is good to know.
Hell I would want to know if I was sleep eating! Whether someone thinks that makes me tight or not... (surely the bread wouldn't make me tight, more like wide!!:-))
Where to put it? Anywhere where it can have view of the fridge door and cannot be knocked over. I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as it is serving a purpose.. I probably wouldn't exactly advertise it (just in case sub conscious mind is working and the person stops for the 1 night you are setting up for), but I wouldn't secretly hide it either... Just put it there before you go to bed.0 -
I recommend hiding it some fruit if like my kids they won't touch it!0

I understand why you want to see who is eating it all. It's not healthy to be getting up in the middle of the night and eating loads of bread or anything really. If it is her and she isn't aware that she is doing it then how else can you get to the bottom of it.
The results will be interesting..............
What if it's you in your sleep?0 -

If shes sleep eating its likely to be something you should get her to see a GP about.
personally Id put a lock on the fridge/cupboards at night rather than setting up a camera to catch someone at it.0 -
Again, as I said, it's just my opinion, but I wouldn't want a camera set up at all in my home...it probably wouldn't feel like my home anymore. A home should be somewhere where everyone who lives there, is able to feel comfortable. It may take longer, but I think there may be better ways to find out what's going on.
Imagine if someone is binge eating at night and stuffing themselves full of food. Deep down they will almost certainly know they have a problem and probably feel pretty bad about it and themselves. Then there's a camera in the kitchen to catch them. All the camera will achieve is making them go elsewhere for food and possibly make it harder to admit than a gentle conversation along the lines of 'I've noticed food is being eaten at night...are you still hungry? Are you eating late at night?'
The only thing the camera would achieve is to quickly establish if someone is sleep eating, but at this stage none of us knows if it's sleep eating or another problem.Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0
