Just wondering how big the house is.

Unless it's a mansion, surely somebody going downstairs and rummaging around in the cupboards would wake somebody up at some point?

Why not just stay awake one night and when you hear someone in the kitchen, go down and see who it is.

The house isn't that big but its a new build and doesn't creak at all when people go up and down the stairs, daughter is extremely light on her feet aswell.

As its not happening every night, the chances of me seeing anything going on are slim. so staying up one night on the off chance probably wouldn't work.

I was going to say, do the people who are suggesting it might be the husband know what happens when a Coaliac eats gluten?

Bad, bad, unmentionable things. Quite frankly, your nose would tell you if it was him.

yes the smell is very very noticeable and that is just after a small contamination.

So you do know who it is then.

It's not you, it can't be your husband because he would be unwell, it can't be your son because he can't reach the food. It can only be your daughter.

Would it not be far more productive to talk to her about ways to stop her sleep eating rather than trying to find a way to spy on her and catch her in the act just to humiliate her with the evidence?

Why can't you discuss with her ways for you to know when she's sleepwalking/eating. A bell or alarm on her door, a stair gate with a bell, a lock at the top of the kitchen door that she would have to move furniture to open. Anything really so that you can guide her safely back to bed had got to be better than a hidden camera.

Or deep down do you know she has inherited your food issues and you think humiliation is the best way to deal with it?

I am not trying to humiliate my daughter....i have sat down with her at great length and talked to her about what we can do about the sleep eating.
We've tried introducing a complex carb supper so shes not hungry in the night.
I don't particularly want to start putting gates up etc as she has a weak bladder and uses the loo in the night and always leaves it to the last minute so for her to faff with a gate may well not help her.

So why are you hiding the camera?

Why not just sit her down and say to her that you're going to leave a camera out so that you can then both see what she is doing when she comes down in the night and you can both come up with a plan to prevent it?

You are out to humiliate her by the very fact that you feel the need for all the cloak and dagger, catching her in the act, knowing it's coming but not when, getting her to admit she's lying antics. If you didn't want to humiliate her you would be open about the camera and would be looking for a solution WITH her, not AGAINST her.

Do you honestly believe that she's not going to feel humiliated when she knows she been secretly filmed and you present her with the evidence of her 'crime'?

it was her idea to get the camera.....she went online and researched the best one and set up the software on my laptop. She asked me not to tell her where i had placed it or when as we have read that just because someone is asleep they are fully aware of things around them and if she knew where the camera was she would change her habits (ie if it was trained on the bread bin, shed go to the fridge instead).
The sleep eating concerns her too as shes going on a residential trip with the school in 2 months time and shes worried it'll happen there too.

Really, So your first post was all made up then? What in earth was the point of this whole thread if you daughter bought the camera and you're only doing it because she asked you to.

If you're going to change your story at least go back and read what you previously wrote.

So a little bit of background, for the last year or so food has been going missing from my kitchen late at night and non one will own up to eating it.
I'm getting fed up with it
as some mornings i come down and theres no bread left even tho when i've gone to bed theres been enough for breakfast and probably enough for lunch left.

My husband is pretty adamant it isn't him...hes a coeliac so i think we'd know if it was him as most of the food that goes missing has gluten in. I'm pretty sure its not me, my son couldn't reach alot of the stuff so it comes down to my daughter, but she denies it too, although she does have history of sleep walking so wondering whether it is an escalation of this.

So to get to the point i've bought a mini secret camera and am trying to work out the best way to hide. If anyone has any good ideas, that'd be great :)

    no it wasn't a lie....

she denies it is her although logic dictates it has to be due to evidence that it isn't anyone else in the household.
She has no knowledge of herself doing it so why would she own up to it? but in turn it does worry her as again logic dictates it is her.

She chose the camera, i bought it, i want to hide it so we/she can find out what is going on.

    Tenth Anniversary
Put it in the fridge. the light from the fridge will illuminate the eaters face.

    Pretty simple.

Well why didn't you say that in the first place? Sure you haven't got mice?
