I think he'd be in far less trouble than the aggressor would. Especially given there was a racist comment and multiple attempts to steal from this boy.

If there's one thing I'm sure it's when a child makes a racist comment - it's never the first time. Just the first time they've been caught. The OP needs to make his daughter see that bullying and racism is not acceptable.

Stealing is theft. The scooter was returned after 'borrowing' so it not theft so not technically stealing. It's winding someone up.

Had they said 'you'll make a great bank robber one day' or 'oh no, another Columbine massacre(sp?)' then that wouldn't have been racist, the fact they said 'you'll make a great terrorist one day' suggests they were influenced by the boy's ethnic origin. Would they have said it if he were white? I doubt it and yes, I know there are white terrorists but given their young years I doubt they are too familiar with the IRA.

I'm not excusing his behaviour in any way whatsoever but you say that if she were more seriously hurt you'd be straight to the Police so why not now? His actions were the same. What if the next kid isn't so lucky?

Maybe it's because all we ever hear about on the news and in the papers is the word 'terrorist'.

Despite other events such as those you mentioned, being well publicised, by far the main term ever talked about is terrorism and terrorists.

Perhaps the kids used the term simply because it's 'now' and 'current'?

The "terrorist" comment is typical of gobby teenagers. My son says his Bangladeshi mate's nickname is "Terrorist", his black mate has the nickname "King Kong" because he is so big and tall and my son (the short kid) is regularly called "Jew boy" or "Schmal" (sp?) because he looks like the kid in the movie "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" I personally think it's dreadful but I do know all of the kids, they're all good mates, it's just how they talk to each other.

All kids insult each other at school, it's not always evidence of bullying, although I know that serious bullying can start with simple name-calling. But brandishing a BB gun and firing it at someone's face, accidentally or not, needs to be addressed. Of course, if OP's daughter has been picking on a kid, that needs to be addressed also.

Good luck OP, I hope the boy's parents are mortified and deal with him accordingly. As I'm sure you will with your daughter if necessary. Do let us know how you get on.

I agree - I would also not tolerate the use of such "nicknames" in my house.

HOWEVER, boys will be boys in their own company and I have been horrified by some of their nicknames for each other. I used to hang out with a large group of Asian boys whilst doing my undergrad (I was the only girl on the course!) and they called each other names that would have them arrested if they were white!

in polite company/amongst strangers it isn't okay however it is a social norm amongst teenagers/young adults. Perhaps to sound tough and communicate in a rebellious way?

I'm sorry but are the IRA the only white "terrorists" in the world? Could it not be assumed that as the most recent terror attacks (large scale - Boston) were white they could have been referring to them?

I went to school in Glasgow in the 90s-00s and trust me, we all knew who the IRA were and I dare say those at the same school now still do.

PS. That makes my school sound awful, not what I meant :rotfl:
