I have memories of my dad having to apply stuff and file mine down as a kid..it was horrible.

I think treatments now are better than they were back then though :) That said last time i had one it went away on its own.

my daughter has had a few verrucas, most of them at the same time and one was huge. I was told clear nail varnish would get rid of them. I only had a nail topcoat that was clear so i put that on every evening and about a week later the verrucas started to fall off. Obviously the large one took a bit longer than the smaller ones. The nail varnish stops the air getting to it and kills it. I now keep that bottle seperate for any verruca emergencies in the future.

When my DD's verrucas got painful, I gave up on the OTC treatments, I tried the GP but due to her young age wouldn't refer for freezing.

I ended up taking her to see a chiropodist privately, a one hour appointment, and month of painting them with stronger acid, all bar the biggest one were gone, that took another couple of weeks.

My DD was happy that it was all done so quickly as doing gymnastics in socks is not fun, and she didn't like wearing swimming socks either.

I saw a very extreme case of veruccas on tv the other week and the specialists treated the case with formaldehyde. It kills all fungi and germs so simply bathing the affected area over a period of time will cause any veruccae to dry up and drop off and prevent any others coming through. The process is painless.

Before posting this I checked the facts on Wikipedia here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formaldehyde#Disinfectant_and_biocide and my recollections are borne out. Your GP may think this is an extreme way to go but perhaps it's worth mentioning?

Thanks everyone for all your stories and advice,

I'm definitely buying some duct tape today with some plasters to keep it on, I'm hoping it will work as dd really hates me touching it and messing around trying to put the bazooka on.

Hopefully I will put the duct tape on tonight and leave for 4/5/6 days and see what happens!

I'm just a. It worried, I'm told it should go black and die, but I hope it won't affect the healthy skin around her verrucca?

  • IT shouldn't affect the healthy skin too much. It may go a little pale and wrinkly (think when you've just got out of the bath or when you've had a plaster on for too long. If you're still worried cut the duct tape as close to the verruca size as you can and then put a plaster over the top so the duct tape only actually covers the verruca as a plaster should allow the surrounding skin to breathe a bit better.

Let us know how you get on!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?
  • Gggrrr well I did the duct tape thing on Thursday night, then woke up to find on fri morning hubby had taken it of dd as she was complaining it hurt,

It wasn't overly tight just taped up firmly to keep the air out.

Now she's moaning it hurts any way so I'm a bit annoyed as if she had kept it on for a few days it might have worked and made the verrucca die a bit!

So it's now hubby responsibility to appl the bazooka and use the pumice stone very night on her foot.

As you can guess he forgot last night so guess who ended up doing it!!

my son has had a few, the first were burnt off by the GP as they were painful and he didnt want him to wait for the ointment to work if he was in pain

The second time I got a treatment off the GP that was in a green and yellow tube, cant remember the name but I think you can buy it now without prescription. It contained salycic (SP) acid and worked really quickly

I will check if we still have the tube and update if I find it

I had treatment to freeze them-very painful. The chiropodists advice was they would eventually go away, and that the treatment would be painful-he was right I should have just let them go away.

  • I think if she's already saying they hurt and she's only had it literally 7/8 weeks then they might do something as they can take years to just go away by them selves.

Not sure if it makes any difference but I had a particularly bad one frozen off when I was 9/10,
