6 year old dd has a largish verucca on the bottom of her heel.
We used bazooka stuff for a few weeks then just gave up.
It's getting more painful for her and getting quite big, does any one have any tips?
Or should we just persevere with the bazooka?
Thanks

Duct tape worked for me :-) (on the chiropodists recommendation).
Banana skins are also supposed to work.
If she is finding it painful take her to a chiropodist and get it treated professionally.0 -
hi, I work in pharmacy. Bazooka it the common treatment for this but does take its time up to 3 months. Its safe to use as long as the patient is not diabetic if she is don't use anything and take her to the doctor. If you want something faster try freezing treatments. They are more expensive but get the job done quicker if you follow the instructions, if you are not able to treat with that or if it keeps getting worse take her to the doctor0

Thanks for the fast replies.
I have read that duct tape and banana skins work!
Also I read that the nhs no longer treat veruccas?and I will have to pay privately for a chiropodist?
Thanks againADVISE-"I advise you get help"

sadly you are correct the NHS does not usually treat this, only advanced cases or where a medical condition prevents you from buying something as there is products that you can buy over the counter0 -
When DD got a bad case of persistant veruccas the GP recommended good old fashioned salycylic acid and a nail file. Sounds brutal but that's what most of these products are anyway, the nail file is to gently remove the dead layer from the top of the verucca so that when you reapply the product it gets into contact with a fresh layer.
If it's getting painful for her to walk though, take her to the GP and get referred to a chiropodist, even if you have to pay. I had a bad case of veruccas when I was a child and my mum was completely phobic about treating them, I ended up in a great deal of pain before my dad discovered this and took me to the GP himself. Not much point having the summer holidays ahead and not being able to enjoy them!
Oh, and just as a point of order, you/she are taking the necessary precautions not to pass them on, yes? Plastic sock for swimming, no bare feet in school or gym or even home if she has a younger sibling with no immunity to these? Cheap pair of flip-flops or crocs in the shower is a good idea if so, or a large plaster. And wash your hands well after the chemical treatment, and don't use that nail file for anything except the verucca!Val.0 -

I got mine treated on the NHS however I had had them for a very long time and they were very deep rooted. had tried all the treatments over the counter nothing worked. I was referred to the dermatology unit and they tried freezing them off however after several attempts this didn't work either. In the end I had to go in for day surgery and they cut them out of my foot (the injections for that were the worst part).0 -
Hi
My 3 have all had them, Im sure its off the mats when they do jujutsui.
We used the bazooka, and it was just slowly putting the stuff on and filing it down, their dad did it for them. He used to get to the roots, bottom bit and then be able to pull it off eventually. It was painful, but it did work.0 -
My son had them and a friend who was nurse used to apply some sort of ointment and file them down for him.....he was 5.
What actually got rid of them was a holiday where he was on the beach every day....it must have been the abrasiveness of the sand. We never looked at them on holiday and when we got home they had gone.0 -
I had a crop of them, about the size of a 2p coin, on the bottom of my heel when I was little.
We tried everything and nothing worked, until they just vanished of theri own accord after about 18 months.0 -
My chiropodist told me to just daily file the skin off the top till they bled a bit, to irritate them. No creams. After a while of this the black bit falls out and they are gone.
The best bit about this method other than it being free and easy is that she said it actually kills off the virus which the creams etc don't do do it is still dormant in your body. Killing the virus means they are less likely to return.
I used to have a massive cluster of them on my foot and this method worked. I have only had one in the ten years since and I got rid of it the same way. Just keep filing the top off until it goes.
If it hurts, file it then put some padding over, like a plaster, to cushion it a bit.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
