Is a viewing no-show a timewaster or should I rearrange?

I had a call from EA at lunchtime today, after they had left several messages for the no-show. They side they had phoned the EA to cancel and it was the EA's fault for not passing it on. The EA is adamant no message was received - I know who I believe. Anyway, they asked for a viewing this Sat so I said that I will only agree if I have another booking around the same time so as not to upset the tenants again. Surely they can't be such timewasters as to do the same thing twice!?0

I had the same person no-show three times..! Each time they wanted to come at 8pm (which is border-line too late for me anyway), each time I said yes, and each time they 'forgot'. All in the space of a week. Looking back I must have been an absolute mug taking the third booking after not turning up twice.....
Oh no!! Nightmare! Apparently some people are professional timewasters. Well, I'm only taking the booking on Sat if I have another new viewing around the same time, otherwise I will cancel her. There was no real excuse and she has blamed the EA as far as I can see.0 -

I wouldn't want to be selling my house to someone who was a PITA at the viewing stage. Chances are, they'd be a PITA for the rest of the transaction too
Thanks Goldiegirl. I agree. I'm letting them rebook only if I have another genuine booking around the same time. 2 strikes and they're out!0 -
harsh for a 1st-time offence!
To me it's the same as having consideration generally. If I'm going to miss a restaurant/hairdresser/doctor apt, I always cancel. Otherwise, who do I think I am wasting other people's time? It's worse when you know you are disrupting people in their home at the weekend for no reason.0 -

Occasionally stuff happens.
Re the earlier poster who said they were a "no show" because they couldn't find the house - I wouldn't be inclined to give them another go. Reason - because I would have expected them to know about maps and Googlemaps and have looked up where the house is at the outset. When I was looking round a totally new to me area recently I made sure I'd checked it out well with Googlemaps to start with and I got hold of a map as soon as I was there and picked the "locals" brains about where everywhere was. So I duly found the houses okay - even though one of them is that tucked away that it wasn't that easy to find. One of the EA's there duly puts directions to "their" properties on the property details anyway - which I was amused to note had included routing viewers up the nicest road (rather than the most convenient road) to get to the property.
(But - hey what can I say - my estate agent admitted to me that he takes my viewers the route to my house that will make them think "Ooh....I didn't realise what was nearby:D:T:D" and got my response of "I've paid for it - so flaunt it....").
I agree, stuff happens. I wouldn't be too rigid on the 24 hour thing though. A family death, for example, would mean it could be days before someone might feel up to dealing with a missed viewing.
Also, in terms of the getting lost thing. I usually rely on my sat nav. Recently though, it's got me in trouble because it hasn't found the correct address because its a little out of date and my phone hasn't picked up a signal. I know I should have updated my sat nav, but it can happen, and doesn't mean I'd be an unreliable purchaser. I'll add it wasn't for a viewing, but for a personal appointment, but I can see how it would happen.0 -

I agree about wasting others' time - it is a pet hate of mine as my boss seems to consider his own time sacred but his underlings' time expendable - i can't stand it...
However I was commenting it wash harsh to only give 1 strike because a simple communication !!!! up (ie. EA fails to pass on the message for example) could have occurred.0 -

A couple of years ago I went with my son to view some houses on his shortlist. At the second viewing the seller was outside and told us that he'd phoned the EA the day before to cancel the viewing as no longer selling. Feeling irate with the EA we went straight round to complain. He seemed genuinely surprised, apologised but told us the seller had not contacted him. We believed him. It was a divorce sale and has made me wary of them.0 -

I agree it can cut both ways - it's for everyone to be a bit more considerate towards everyone else, in whatever transaction they are involved in.0
