I want a cheapo MP3 player so that I can load up CD stories for the kids on holiday, will CD stories work on any MP3 player?

Afraid not Phil. MP3 reduces stories, songs etc on Cd's to about 10% of the original size with minimal loss of quality - that's the whole point. To reduce your Audio to mp3 (or WMA or whatever) you have to 'rip' the cd. It's a simple process using Windows Media Player or similar. Then you put these 'small' files on your mp3 player.
Conversely if you have downloaded mp3 files onto your computer and wish to play them on an ordinary cd player than you have to burn them onto an Audio cd. (Again using windows media player or similar).
Just to confuse matters even further, I have a cd player that also plays mp3's. I can either play a music cd or I can rip 10 music cd's on my PC, into mp3 files and put them all on one cd which will also play on my cd player

    Hi
I'm a bit of an oldie, I'll be first to admit that and no I can't set the video

However, I do enjoy a challenge and the MP3 revolution will not pass me by without my having a stab at it. Can anyone ansers these concerns/questions for me please?
    1. Does this model allow use of speakers - I dont like earphones
    2. Which ones would fit this model
    3. Does Ebuyer sell them (not mentioned in accessories)
    4. Does it just work on batteries or can it be connected to main socket

I will be using it mostly for music but also some audio books.

    Thanks for any help.
    M.
    Hi,

Yes, the MP3 player will work with any speakers that have a 3.5m "headphone" jack, which is pretty much all of them. For instance, for £7 these are meant to have pretty good sound quality:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/81445/rb/28276926309

The only problem will be that most need a mains source of power to amplify the sound, so they won't be as portable as headphones.

The player won't work on mains power but you can buy some rechargeable AAA batteries - each charge will last quite a while. This will probably save you money overall because a transformer to convert AC power (from your wall) to a trickle DV charge (for the player) would waste a lot of electricity through heat.

    Hope that helps!

Hi I purchased an 4GB MP4 player from ebay on buy it now from hong kong for my partner when she did the race for life and this cost £22.48 so i bought another on Tuesday, they work a treat, the ear phones that come with them are not that great so i got some hang over the ear ones.

Have just looked to get you the link but they have gone up by £2.50 but still making a great buy for what it is at £24.98.

Don't be put off that its in hong kong as it turned up within 4 days last time, just waiting for mine to arrive.

The ebay shop is http://stores.ebay.co.uk/BUY-MY-NOW look for " 4GB MP4 MP3 WMA FM PLAYER 2nd Gen. Version + FREE CASE " @ £4.99 with £19.99 carriage. they also have 8GB ones for £34.98

    Jim

    Hi Jim,

I think all the ebay sellers from HK sellign 4GB or 8GB are fake. They hack the player to show 4 or 8Gb whislt it only has 512mb-2gb max.

Its possible you found a good seller who sells a real 4gb player though. Can you confirm if you have managed to load 4gb of playable music on it?

    Thanks

I have just ripped the CD on to my PC via Windows Media Player then transferred it to my Sony MP3 player and that worked fine.
