    feeling very deflated.
    Dh just really doesn't get my MFW thing. He obviously likes the idea of paying it off early, but doesn't want to really contribute much a month. I work part time and I'm cutting my costs down to put towards the mortgage, but it feels a little one-sided. I could put loads towards the mortgage, but as we have our own money (a joint ac for bills/mort etc), it would mostly be coming from me.
    I'm now thinking I'll just keep saving and see how I feel.
    £12.21 to be added to the savings = £212.40.
    £787.60 to go before the new year if I can manage it.

  • Hi Tooatoo, how about printing out some scenarios of the difference OPing will make. If he sees you can save £000s in interest, in black and white, maybe he can have a dream about what he would like to spend some of the savings on? Admittedly you would have to build the savings up to have the actual cash :) but it might play on his mind and help him to see the benefit.

    Good luck and it's hard if your OH isn't on board. It took me a year or lurking and dropping hints before DH caught the bug.

    Best wishes Tilly x

    Thanks tilly. Ive tried that but to no avail. Also tried other tactics such as £ xxx takes a whole month off but that's not working either!
    Ill plod on and try to find money from our joint outgoings (easier said! ).

    We have been away for a week and spent quite a bit but all in budget.
    Now I need to catch up with the house work sort out food shopping etc...and tackle the endless pile of laundry!

    rough day today. post holiday chaos and a poorly girl meant an extra three loads of washing on top of a weeks worth already and the tumble had to come on....at least the gas/elec was only £15 for the past 12 days as we've been away.

    Also had our water bill today - £22 in credit (£47 pm) and thats with a leaky tap. It just makes me want more off it! I don't think I have any access online to keep track (and i've never read my water meter as its with four others and not sure how to know which is mine). I should look into this though.

    Hoping for some sleep tonight and also hoping for a big improvement in my girl, she's little enough without not eating.

    a few jobs to be done :-

    * sort out electoral role letter
    * shopping list (hope to go tomorrow if I feel human enough and girlie has improved)
    * meter readings - done
    * two more loads in the washer and hopefully line dried
    * prepare for work/nursery/grandparents monday

    in other news I received a nice voucher from a big supermarket after I complained that i had a mouldy tin of tomatoes, so will use that when I next go that way.

    thanks edinburgher :)

    two nsd in row. dinner was free again last night (thank you mum! She also supplied a bottle of wine. We didn't open it last night, so will save it for another time). I have realised that since I've been mostly teetotal the past 4 and bit years, I don't miss it really. If I have more than one glass I really feel the next day! Must be a sign of my age. If I feel like it, then I'll treat myself. Well gone are the days of me being a pint drinking student!
    I wonder how much money I have actually saved since become pregnant with dd1 on alcohol?!

    Anyway, I digress. A few pennies shifted this morning. DH said I could have £20 for an OP so I matched and £40 has gone off.
    On the savings front, it now stands at £401 (40% - I'm quite pleased with that). 11 weeks to go average of £54.45 pw. I've got almost £50 in my penny account if not needed so I'll transfer before the weekend if thats the case. It does saddened me a little as this could all be going to the mortgage. However, I'm trying to remind myself that the emergency fund is needed. When it gets over a certain amount I can then transfer some pennies to the mortgage.

    On the christmas front (sorry for those its too early for!) I have the majority of gifts for the extended family. I just have more to buy for the girls, dh and my dad.

    I made some chilli jam at the weekend - its amazing. Really pleased with it. I made three jars for the cost of around £1.75. Hope bil likes his jar.

    We have painting with the girls on the agenda today (so I've put off cleaning the kitchen too much, as it will most definately need doing after!).

    Hehe that sounds like fun (the painting not the cleaning!) LO drew me a picture today and announced it was a pear and a fish. I must remember to label the squiggle before I out it on the fridge or I will never know!

    You're doing well with the OPs and trust me an emergency fund is never a waste of money - you don't know what will hit you in life. My OH has been out of work for 2 months now with no interviews lined up and I can tell you our emergency fund has been a lifesaver. I too have been tempted to use it to overpay in the past but never again. When OH gets back into work, that emergency fund is going to be filled up again before I do anything else.

    Thanks Mouche.
    I hope your oh gets some luck soon.
    One of our paintings today was a dolphin leaping out of the water, the sun in the sky and a yellow tadpole....I need to label that one! I love the imagination of a 3 year old.

    Well I'm still boosting the emergency savings fund, but I've decided to send my change direct to OP. Whenever I have any oddment then off it goes. I've just sent £5.84. I should really keep a log of how much I have OP'd. Its not easy to keep track as I cannot log onto my account. I am due an annual mortgage statement soon so it'll be nice to see the small extra payments we have sent.
