Money Grabbing Vet!!!

How many times do I have to spell it out?
Went to the vet
Told them I have £60 on me
Told them the rest would be paid in the week
Would have had to leave the dog there anyway
Would have been able to pay upon collection of the dog
Offered to leave Bank Details etc in the meantime
Vet refused treatment of the dog because I could not pay in full up front
Left dog in pain with a broken leg without even offering to administer pain relief while we found alternative treatment.
Yes a Vet is a business but its not a greengrocers.
And Yes a private Hospital will offer interest free credit. Dont tell me differently I have personal experience of it.0 -
Smartsuit, you don't understand that the vet is not a charity and has no obligation to treat your animal. It is your responsibility to ensure you have enough money to cover any vets bills that may arise. Hence the discussion about insurance earlier in this thread. There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0

Yeah I know I've read all that. And Yes a private Hospital will offer interest free credit. Dont tell me differently I have personal experience of it.
Interest free credit is not treatment before arranging payment. You'll have arranged to pay in full even if it is interest free.0 -
I do feel sorry for you Smartsuit. There you are with all the right intentions but the vet has probably heard it all before.
I know you said that you would leave your dog at the vet and collect the dog once you have got the money (following week) but the dog isnt collateral / deposit / surety. Its a dog. If you didnt turn up with the money (hundreds poss thousands) then what would the vet do? He may have children, mortgage and bills to pay.
What if he were counting on your money so he could pay for a holiday with the children and you couldnt pay?
Its a risk that as a business man he couldnt take. Unfortunately everyone is protecting there own interests.
You should get insurance just in case it happens again.0 -

Have you ever met a poor vet?0 -
Whats your point? That all vets are loaded....
Money makes the world go round. This guy wants his money. Period.
As MSEr's we find ways to cut the excess spend. Hence the reason were are here. Im not loaded but if I would be hard pressed to offer my services without payment first.0 -

Yes! My friend who is a vet came from overseas to study. He had to pay all the course fees and living expenses himself. He's about £60k in debt to his family and it'll take him quite a few years to pay this off even though he's earning well. The man without a signature.0 -

I didn't mean leave the dog there as security! Thats is just nonsense! The dog would have to stay in for a day or so due to the operation she needed. By the time the operation was done and the dog was ready to come home I would have had the money.0 -
How does he know that you would have the money?0

How does he know that anyone would have the money, It is common practice at a vet to do the treatment on an animal and you pay upon collection. that is how it has worked every other time I have had to leave an animal at the vet for anything from a neutering to my old dog who contracted Parvo Virus from the innoculation.
Besides that, the main point of this thread is the vet DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO GIVE THE DOG A PAIN KILLER.
I have had enough of trying to defend myself to people who cannot be bothered to read the whole thread but instead jump to thier own conclusions and completely miss the point of this thread.0
