Need some advice on some cable I have. I was "given" it at work saying it was coax and have run it through a new loft extension to various parts i wanted it. Problem is ive just started to connect and found the solid copper core is in fact stranded.....will this still work on tv's? the cable has URM 70 written on it. I have tried to search on the internet but not 100% sure if this will work.

Yes, it'll be fine. Purists used to solder the end (core) to the plug tip, but it isn't really necessary.0

great thanks! when i cut away the white plastic to expose the strands is this meant to poke through the tube like the solid copper would or does it just need to be in contact with the metal? sorry thats about as good as an explanation i can give!!!
I am using this from sky box to second tv and from outside aerial. Any tips on attaching to aerial. Looks quite old looks like original cable is cut and screwed onto a contact???0 -
Loads of info here to help

Just remember to ensure that the centre core of the cable is always isolated from the outer braid0 -
Yes, It is fine for TV that URM. But remember to fix it properly.0

It's intended for CCTV use. It has three times the signal loss of WF100 (at 52dB/100m @ 1GHz) and its shielding isn't really up to par for digital TV signals. If you experience interference or poor signal strength, consider changing it for something better.
Remember this for the future because, although it may work OK now, if you buy new equipment (e.g. DECT phone, new TV, DVD player) that chucks out interference, you may experience problems and, by then, you'll have forgotten that you installed substandard cable.0 -
thanks again......im not sure if im missing the point but everything i see has a solid centre core. so these types of instructions arent neccasarily what i can do as the stranded core isnt going into the connnector as it were....
looks like my aerial is FM Dipole but the same question is it looks like it will be difficult to attach the centre part again?
final question can i have the cable (coax) from the sky box (with magic eye) and the cable from the aerial (coax) going into the same wall socket. Im assuming taht the tv would then be able to pick up a freeview box and get the feed through from the sky box?? same applies to the fitting into the wall socket as it looks like the centre copper core needs to be pushed in?

Just plug the aerial into the Sky box and the RF2 will carry both the freeview AND the Sky channel.
The stranded core can be used with most connectors just twist the core a good few times, obviously its not much cop with F connectors though. If its a push fit wall socket just swap that out to an unshielded saddle clamp one.0 -
great! not using it with f connectors so will try that. Sorry to drag this is my
diagram of what im trying to do!......didnt think about using sky box but reason i wanted separate aerial is that people could watch the tv's independently in 4 rooms whether sky or freeview.......if i do it through sky then people would have to watch the same in both rooms? Will the splitter be ok out the second sky box (RF2) its only a v short run to the next room?

No, they'd have to watch the same Sky channel but the off air stuff will just pass through as it is, so you can connect a Freeview box at other outlets etc.looks like my aerial is FM Dipole
That's not a TV aerial
Basically, the set up should be something like ...
Dish cable to both Sky boxes
HDMI to both ‘Sky’ TVs
TV aerial to Sky Box 1
Sky RF 2 to small 4 way distribution amp input [you could also send the 2nd RF2 output to the amp for some more redundancy]
Outputs from amp to TVs that don’t have a Sky box
which TV transmitter do you get you TV channels from?0 -
